UNFILTERED RECORDS MERGES WITH WARNER MUSIC ILG
April 30, 2009
New York indie label Unfiltered Records has specialized in unadulterated alternative pop since their first release by Brookville in 2003. Unfiltered was initially a label oriented around releasing musician/producer Andy Chase’s own circle of projects including the entire catalog of his critically acclaimed group, Ivy. The label has also released two albums by Chase’s other band, Brookville and Paco, the side project of Ivy’s singer Dominique Durand. The label quickly gained traction and began to carve a niche for itself in the world of “moody dream pop”. The Unfiltered artist roster also includes the critically acclaimed debut album from The Postmarks (who spent 5 weeks in the CMJ Top 20) and Brooklyn via New Zealand’s The Grey Race.
Unfiltered will christen the new partnership with the release of The Postmarks Memoirs At the End of the World on 08/18/09 followed by Brookville’s third album Broken Lights in September. Unfiltered also recently signed Ukrainian/New York ingénue, Lana Mir. Her blend of vintage tinged alternative pop has elements of Feist, Nouvelle Vague, Sade and even Billie Holiday. Look for her debut EP this September featuring a cover of the Stone Roses classic “I Wanna Be Adored”. 2010 will bring a full length from Lana Mir as well as a brand new Ivy album.

THE ORIGINAL BLOW MONKEYS REUNITE AFTER 18 YEARS
April 30, 2009
18 years after going their separate ways, the original four members of The Blow Monkeys; Dr Robert, Mick Anker, Tony Kiley and Neville Henry are reunited.
Formed in 1981 the band made their recorded debut on the tiny independent imprint, Parasol, in January 1982 and supported its release with extensive gigging in London, eventually securing a residency at the dearly departed Moonlight Club in Hampstead. The band’s idiosyncratic pop songs secured a record deal with RCA, inked in July 1983. The Blow Monkeys debut LP ‘Limping For A Generation’ was released the following year, produced by Jam/Style Council sound manicurist Pete Wilson.
The Blow Monkeys have just completed a 22 UK tour culminating with a night at London’s legendary 100 Club which was filmed for DVD release in 2009. The band are now set for festival dates in the UK, Australia, Japan, Germany, Spain and Norway.

WILLIAM ELLIOTT WHITMORE PERFORMS ON “LATER…WITH JOOLS HOLLAND”
April 30, 2009
Forget auto-tune, background singers and flashy stage production. The real test of a true talent is to get in front of a live audience (not to mention hundreds of thousands of television viewers) with nothing but your own voice, an acoustic guitar and a boot heel for percussion, which is exactly what William Elliott Whitmore did when he recently appeared on the long running and wildly popular UK music program “Later…with Jools Holland” to perform “Old Devils” off his ANTI- Records debut Animals in the Dark. And, as they say, the crowd went wild.

Kat Edmonson, Take to the Sky
April 30, 2009
When Kat Edmonson sings her first note in “Summertime,” her voice could be mistaken for a mournful alto sax solo. Hers is the kind of voice that was created to seduce jazz melodies, reminiscent of the old jazz greats who first sang these songs and showed the world what a stage full of musicians could really do.
Take to the Sky is a journey. Edmonson travels through different decades as she puts her soulful touch on different songs from different decades. She opens with “Summertime” and even includes a cover of “Lovefool,” mocked in season three of The Office for its ability to annoy, transformed into something soft, lovely, and sweet. And charming.
On this album, Edmonson can just be who she is. Her voice is pure and soulful. She isn’t afraid to step aside and showcase the band behind her, specifically with the bass clarinet solo in “Charade.” It is smooth and melodic and makes me wonder why I haven’t heard more bass clarinet solos in my lifetime.
Every note Edmonson sings is sultry and mysterious. And when she sings, you want to be there listening, no cares in the world, one of the happy people ordered to “drink up” in “Angel Eyes.” The album shines with personality and romance, and soul.
Anyone who appreciates jazz will love the passion that drives Edmonson’s music and will certainly be reminded of the beauty and simplicity behind it. This is one singer who knows that it’s not about the money or the fame, but the emotion. Whether she’s singing John Lennon or the Gershwins, she puts her own personal touch on songs we’ve all heard before and won’t soon be forgetting.
