One of these is ‘home’ to The Knitts, a band with a surprisingly long history and a short fuse, ready to explode onto the music scene with the release of their upcoming debut full-length album Retreat.

The origins of The Knitts go back to the final years of the Knitting Factory on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. “That’s strangely how the band name came about, from Charlie’s time working the box office,” recalls Justin Volkens of his brother, Charlie Volkens’ time at the club while various future Knitts hung out at KF shows. Now The Knitts are made up of the brothers Volkens – Justin (Vocals) & Charlie (guitar), along with Victor Portillo (lead guitar), Jaime “Jimmy” Luque (bass) and Clare Taylor Wilkes (drums).

The release will come out this May, alongside a SXSW showcase, local Austin shows, and a tour for the album. Musically, “Me to Me” seems to be considerably more chill than those on last year’s My Life in Steel and Concrete — in the past, his music sounded like Swans, but this sounds more like Dirty Projectors — but if the track is any indication, the forthcoming album will also go deep.” – Adam Rothbarth

I was traveling a lot and sleeping around, and experiencing the mind-altering freedom and perspective that those two pastimes arouse. The expression ‘what if?’ – which makes up the bridge of the song- was a favorite of mine when I was a kid and I drove my parents mad with weird hypotheticals. This song is about eliminating the ‘what ifs’ by doing every bloody thing I felt like doing, after being confined by the limits of my own imagination for a long time.”
