When listening to STELLA, it’s impossible not to picture her belonging in a smokey underground club, with her unique brand of high-temperature, thoughtfully produced swirl of dreamy soul and modern r&b marking an unexpected contrast to her father’s music — rock legend Carlos Santana. Her debut album Selfish recently released last week, offers a thematic gut-punch — often times a highly personal one — relating to heartbreak and moving on that’s refreshingly wise, while offering up a deft touch in encompassing a moody mix of genres that creates a truly satisfying journey.
