NEW SINGLE BY WAXLIMBS

Toronto electronic musician Waxlimbs is known for his exploratory ways, and now the man also called Alex Metcalfe has offered a new glimpse of his inventive output with a single containing the tracks “Spots” and “Breathing.”

“Spots” overlays rat-a-tatting drum machines with synth textures that shift between moodily atmospheric and harshly in-your-face. The five-and-a-half-minute track incorporates darkly dramatic vocals from Mash and squalling synth breaks. On the flip, “Breathing” features Isabella Davis and is a little more laid back with its hazily drifting grooves and soothing coos.

THE CLEAN’S HAMISH KILGOUR TO RELEASE FIRST EVER SOLO ALBUM + SINGLE

Hamish Kilgour, a founding member of both The Clean and The Mad Scene, has never released a proper solo album of his own, until now.

All Of It And Nothing is an ode to the power of jangle, highlighting Kilgour’s innate ability to both gleam the melodic cube and let the choogle of a chord progression ride itself to greatness. Recorded in collaboration with Gary Olson, who recorded the album at his Marlborough Farms studio, accompanied Kilgour on some songs and took part in songwriting, the album carries a distinct hushed intimacy, full of soft-spoken phrases and light guitar play, which belies the power of the music it provides.

A chance meeting brought the two together after discovering a mutual affinity for a wide range of influences from Beach House, Nicolas Jaar, and Sigur Ros to more undiscovered chillwave producers such as Evenings, MMOTHS, and Balam Acab as well as classical and contemporary pianists; all of which are sources of inspiration for them as they continue to write and evolve.
