Colorado-based country singer-songwriter Buckstein has just released a very emotional song, “Everything I Need (Acoustic).” He sat down recently with @skopemag to talk about this special version of the song.
@skopemag: Hi, Buckstein! Tell us about your new, amazing single, “Everything I Need (Acoustic).” What inspired that song and what is it about?
Buckstein: It’s about what every little kid goes through with their mother. Growing and learning what it means to be a good person and how a mother’s love, though tough at times, is vital and unconditional. The song was inspired by a newscaster I heard telling a story about his mother on Mother’s Day; as a child he was upset and packed up his toys to run away. He got to the door, looked back and said, “I’ve got everything I need, except you.”
@skopemag: What kind of a vibe did you want this version of the song to have?
Buckstein: As it happens for most artists, after the first version was released, I wound up playing the song at home and around the campfire a bit and noticed the way people responded to it – the lyrics maybe hold more feeling without the bells and whistles. It’s a good lesson in “less is more.” Sometimes muting a few tracks is the exact sauce you need to get everything just right.
@skopemag: How would you describe your music?
Buckstein: My voice is my instrument, and I like to play around. My voice and vibe is country, but you’ll hear my love for Elvis, for Sam Cooke, and bluegrass in my delivery. I’m a proud native of Colorado. Here, we love to play and push the edges. You’ll see all of that in my music from different styles, vibes, colors, and themes.
@skopemag: What is next for Buckstein?
Buckstein: More and more and more music – you can catch me at Beach Life Ranch Festival in September; I’ve got a full album planning to come out in the spring; and I’m planning a tour to follow. I really hope to see some of you out there, singing along.
