Toronto based band MONOWHALES release feel-good banger “New Threads”
Following on from the bands industrial-infused single “CTRL^^^”, vocalist Sally Shaar, guitarist Zach Zanardo and drummer Jordan Circosta, return with feel-good banger “New Threads”. Evoking a feeling that is deeply personal and wholeheartedly unique, MONOWHALES’ fuzzy indie pop/rock track lets listeners peer into a world of self- discovery, uncertainty, struggle and hope. Premiering on GRM Daily, the accompanying official video features Strandz highlighting and celebrating legit businesses in line with his motto ‘Fully Lidge’. He will also be featured on GRM Daily’s exclusive freestyle series, One Mic, to celebrate the release. Strandz’s second single of the new year, it follows on from recent single ‘4Eva Timeless’.
Gwenno Shares Newest Single “Men An Toll” || Out Now on Heavenly / PIAS
Commenting on the track Gwenno says: “Men an Toll (also known as Mên-an-Tol and meaning holed stone) is a wonderful Bronze Age formation of standing stones near Madron, Cornwall. With its obvious feminine symbolism, its holed stone was believed to aid fertility. I was inspired by Ithell Colquhoun’s ‘The Living Stones’ as well as the eternal nature of these ancient monuments and how they enable us to reflect on our own nature as human beings and on our relationship to the landscape. I sing, in Cornish “It’s completely obvious that I can’t escape from this…” I’m trying to express the moment when you connect with your own instinct and accept what you are. With ‘Men an Toll’, I wanted to share a different and quieter side to the record, one that is grounded in the music that has had a big influence on both Rhys and I – ambient Celtic music, film scores, and experimental electronic music. I’ve created a playlist of artists and songs which I think embody some of these elements, and having listened to so much music which soothes the soul over the past couple of years, I hope that this collection of songs will serve as a small and helpful reminder of how powerful the sound of gentleness and beauty is.”

I wrote ‘Buried Alive’ at a time when I had become a bit of a hoarder, and I’d hold on to everything, down to pamphlets from a doctor’s office to every journal I’ve written in. It was a strange sentimental attachment to everything I owned. I wondered why people, including me, attach themselves to things, and it’s more than materialism, it’s having something permanent. The title came from this tv show called ‘Buried Alive’ about hoarders and in a way I related to them trying to fill some void or emotion with possessions.

West London riser DEJA is re-defining conventionality with her ‘norm’ defying singles as she challenges stereotypes and confronts topics such as sexuality, relationships and womanhood – her latest single ‘How It Is’ being an example of just that. Swedish guitar-slingers Tribe Friday today serve up another addictive dose of vibrant 21st-century indie. “sugar” is the fifth single release from the band’s upcoming debut album bubblegum emo (out June 3rd), and may well be the purest distillation of that album’s moniker. This is a track that revels in an unabashed embracing of the melodic, thrashing chords, and a healthy serving of Tribe Friday’s wry self-loathing. Singer Noah Deutschmann explains the song’s genesis, “sugar” is about having been attached or addicted to something for so long that getting rid of that attachment leaves you feeling empty and weird inside. Which is just a fancy way of saying I wrote a song while quitting nicotine for the first time… Unfortunately I couldn’t stay off the nicotine for more than 6 months. Next time!”
