Folk/Indie Electronic Group Dogwood Last Release Folktronica Collaboration with Spec Kay via Vents Magazine
Dogwood Last was initiated by Burrell as a solo project of experimentation in 2015. The next few years saw him creating demos and songs, eventually leading to Dogwood’s debut release Time Follows in 2018, produced alongside Volcano Choir’s Thomas Wincek. After the record’s release, Dogwood expanded to include three additional members, including musicians Jesse Morvan, Skyler Hagner, and Matt Jernigan. Since then, the band has been performing live shows across New York and the tri-state area before the COVID-19 pandemic unexpectedly ensued. The group gathers sonic inspiration from alternative acts such as Bon Iver, The Japanese House, and Hiss Golden Messenger. On the new release, Burrell states that “Mari” touches on the “perspective of dismissing time; casting it away”, as the song is meant to be a continuing conversation on Dogwood’s previous record and it’s prominent themes of time.
