VOKA GENTLE enlist THE FLAMING LIPS’ WAYNE COYNE for new single

Operating on a plane between avant-garde indie, bubbling electronica and cosmic psychedelia, London group Voka Gentle have an addictive, amorphous sound. A three limbed beast made up of twins Ellie and Imogen Mason, and William J. Stokes, each is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer with an imperious understanding of three dimensional sound. Dylan Cartlidge – bright new alternative hip-hop indie crossover single ‘Hang My Head’

Inspired by White’s trip to Zimbabwe, the track opens with rhythmic clapping and catchy whistling, before building to a surging technicolour chorus in which Dylan triumphantly reminds us that “we’ve got to keep on movin'”. Australian Alt-Pop Artist Chymes Releases Debut EP

Chymes adds, “Writing this EP felt very transformational for me. I was in the darkest place I think I’ve ever been in but was writing the best music I’ve ever written. It was such an interesting experience to look back on because whilst I was so unwell mentally, I felt so open writing my lyrics and free to explore what sounds I liked and inspired me. I had written 5 out of the 6 songs with one writer and we spent a lot of time together so it was a safe environment to be raw and honest, which I think is so integral in making good music. The EP explores different power dynamics in relationships I’ve had and struggled with, along with the internal relationship with myself. I also explored different ways of writing concepts and ‘Never Win’ is a good example; I wrote it from the perspective of a controlling, self-indulging, narcissistic person in a relationship, which was a lot of fun to explore.”

Kwaku Asante “Angel”

“Angel is about how selfish I am leading to neglecting a partner, not because I don’t care about them but because I want to be successful in music. The toxicity in the song is that I hoped that she would stay around, regardless of my actions and carry on being my shoulder to cry on, the person I vent to. It’s ironic, given the song sounds positive.”

Watch Dive Index’s new “Wish I Had A Pulse” video via Spill Magazine

“The video for the “Wish I Had a Pulse” remix features a collection of spring blooms that sprung up over the past couple months around the studio in Ojai – pin cushion protea, grevillea, iris, eucalyptus, aloe and various grasses. Since the music has more of minimal house vibe, we wanted to anthropomorphize the plants, as if they were dancing. Shot outside at night, the flowers and grasses were inserted into a power drill and spun around under a spotlight. To give a little bit of a laid back feel, we shot most of it in slow motion. ”
