Media Jeweler share “Helicopter”

Founded in Orange County before rising to greater prominence in Los Angeles, Media Jeweler are a band who have long pushed to the outer edges of the art rock scene they’ve been a fixture of for going on half a decade. From their early days sharing stages with artists like Palberta, Palm, Yonatan Gat and Anna Meredith, their dramatic, technically-adept and largely instrumental sound has been turning heads. Their mesmeric live performances initially attracted the attention of Brooklyn’s Fire Talk Records (Dehd, Mamalarky, Pure X), who released their 2015 debut $99 R/T Hawaii and their 2018 full length 1-800-SUCCEED to wide acclaim from outlets like Pitchfork, NPR, VICE, Paste and Stereogum, who drew comparisons to artists like Slint, Dimemberment Plan and Built To Spill while praising the bands “carefully-honed art rock” (VICE).

OPHIDIAN I Premieres New Single, “Spiral to Oblivion”

The band comments on the new album and track: “‘Spiral To Oblivion’ was among the first songs we wrote for the album and has been a band-favourite since its inception. With this song we wanted to make a very death metal oriented song but keep prominent focus on the attributes we were striving for with the album and sound of the band as a whole – memorable melodies and solid structure & composition. To sustain apt harmonious guidance, the guitar leads and melodies became a centrepiece of this song. As with many other songs on the album the guitar leads serve as the central source of melody and are present throughout the bulk of the song. We feel that we ended up with a full-force, tech-death banger that we can’t wait to play live. Our friend Ásgeir Helgi did a great job on the video; capturing the spirit and essence of OPHIDIAN I.”

VC Pines releases video for ‘Concrete’ – the title track from his brand new EP, out now

Speaking about the new track VC Pines aka Jack Mercer says, “This was the first song I wrote during lockdown. I thought back to nights out and all the different emotions that rise up and die down on a heavy night out. It’s inevitably a love song. Love for romance and a love for the night together. When you find a sense of love that stops you in your tracks ‘Concrete curling, to stone I’m turning’, and also comparing the different needs, wants and characters from London nightlife – ‘city queens, in limousines, they all crawl, for ugly things, but you paint, pretty scenes, as I pluck, damaged wings.’ I love the image the saxophone paints of a lonely sax player playing under a streetlight in thick London fog.”

Blurry The Explorer Share “Limited By Jelly” feat. Kalmia Traver

Of the song, Traver shares: “I wrote the lyrics for ‘Limited By Jelly’ early on in the pandemic when I was all alone and thinking about tiny virus bodies under fingernails and in our nose hairs, and how a virus carries a message for our immune systems–a message from beyond that can wreak havoc at the most intimate and the most massive of scales. I was thinking of this message as a reality wave that rolls through us as a collective, and we have a choice to ride it. As a survivor of cancer, I am very interested in honing my ability to listen to what my body has to say. Because of the violence of capitalism and the culture of white supremacy, our body knowledge has been cut off from us, and in this time we are finding ways to remember. We’re limited by the jelly that we are, but inside the jelly there is infinite discovery and eons of wisdom. Music is one really great way to remember and rediscover this wisdom. I am so thankful to have been included in this piece.”
