“Coochie Man” YN Jay and Fellow Flint Native Louie Ray are the “Mafia”

YN Jay is a restless creative, constantly feeding his fans highly-quotable songs and engaging music videos. This weekend, Jay teamed up with his regular collaborator Louie Ray to share “The Mafia,” a new music video. A highlight from Jay & Ray’s 2020 collab album The Scouts, “The Mafia” samples Nino Rota’s legendary soundtrack from The Godfather as the two Flint natives show off their inimitable chemistry and wild lyricism. Directed by SPRK, the deliberately lo-fi video for “The Mafia” is a testament to the two rappers’ bond and their devotion to their hometown. “The Mafia” was the second video that YN Jay shared over the weekend, after the video for his 2020 viral hit “Coochie Growl” ft. Rio Da Yung OG, both following the new single “Drunk When I Made This,” produced by ENRGY

Reggae Singer Activist Commemorates Nina Simone “Four Women” on the 52nd Anniversary of ‘Live At Berkley’ Album Recording

As we commemorate the anniversary of the iconic Nina Simone, ‘Live at Berkley’ the words to her single “Four Women” are as potent today as they were 52 years ago. All over the world, women are facing gender-based violence, unfairly treated, financial oppression, while facing stereotypes within society based on their race and the damaging legacy of slavery. Yet they continue to be the pillars of our society. Jamaica is in the throes of a disturbing wave of crimes against women that have motivated many to speak out, but none more relevant than that of Reggae’s own Queen Ifrica. Courtesy of the Marley’s Ghetto Youths International label, Ifrica gives us a glimpse into her own inner thoughts on the tragedy.

Escape With John Smith Into The Ethereal Welsh Countryside In His New Video For “Hold On”

Amongst a series of gorgeously framed shots of a foggy Welsh countryside, singer, songwriter, and revered guitarist John Smith materializes into view just in time to sing the first lines of his song “Hold On.” Directed by Chris “MUG5″ Maguire and Nastassja Simone—with Richard Shelton at the helm as Director of Photography—the video was dreamt up as an ode to “Hiraeth,” a Welsh word without a direct English translation. The University of Wales, Lampeter likens it to “a homesickness tinged with grief and sadness over the lost or departed”—an unparalleled companion to Smith’s words and music. “Their concept of an ode to ‘Hiraeth’ married perfectly with the message of the song,” he says of the video team from riot.nyc. “I was delighted to get out into the peaks of North Wales for the day. Late in the afternoon, the mist crept over the mountaintop, enshrouding us completely; it was as though Mother Nature herself had decided to direct the shoot.”

Fatal Conceit – New Single “Takin Back the Name”

Martuch says, “This song is a defiant, anthematic declaration that seeks to make clear that no one gets to determine who or what you are. In a somewhat abstract manner, “The name” that’s being referred to in this song is a stand-in for a title that’s been stolen/lost or a word that’s been used to hurt you or others. It’s something you should feel empowered to seize back for you. Take it. Own it.”
