I feel the animation finishes my thoughts and captures the lighthearted, creative, and adventurous spirit of the song.”

Bring Backs marks Alfa’s first release for the label ANTI- and is also the most detailed exploration of his upbringing in musical form. The album’s nine tracks of groove-based intricacies, lyrical solipsism and meandering fragmentations are tied together by a remarkable poem written by Hilary Thomas expressing the sensuous realities of building community in a new country. Panamanian singer/songwriter Sofía Valdés shares a Spanish version of “Amsterdam” from her debut EP, Ventura released in February of this year. The single details the pain of wanting to be with someone when they’ve since moved on to be with someone else. Sofia’s music offers a unique quality of being relatable to anyone who has experienced heartbreak while avoiding cliche. The song begins and ends with a scratched sample of a Spanish poem, “El Mar” by Jorge Luis Borges. This paired with the kinetic hand percussion, inspired by sounds she heard growing up in Panama, beautifully displays Valdés’ musical talent.

The new single follows “Hate Myself”, which premiered as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record In The World and was playlisted at Radio 1. “‘I Kissed Someone (It Wasn’t You)’ is set in the aftermath of a newly-single person’s messy night out,” explains dodie. “It’s the feeling of trying to patch over a broken, lonely heart by indulging in a revenge fantasy of promiscuity – sadly only resulting in feeling lost, lonelier and shameful. I wrote the song to take place in a drunken, dark mindset – teetering on the edge of sinking deep into the bad thoughts that alcohol can amplify, before snapping back in the verses to a slightly more grounded, but still sad, place.”
