DEAD HISTORY (MN EMO/POST-HARDCORE) ANNOUNCE DEBUT LP
With a sound that unapologetically pays homage to the likes of Quicksand, Texas is the Reason, Hum, Far, Swervedriver and Sparkmarker among others, Dead History’s members grew up somewhat isolated in mid-sized towns like Mankato, MN, Sioux Falls, SD and Appleton/Green Bay, WI. In the early to mid-‘90s, these tertiary punk and hardcore markets had vibrant DIY scenes akin to the Champaign/Urbana scenes of the same era that contributed to the genres to a large—but less discussed—degree.

THE SILK WAR Releases New Single & Video “Barcelona”
“Our song ‘Barcelona’ treads heavily down two different paths,” explains The Silk War. “The music reflects the longing and love for a city filled with cathedrals, starting the song off with a recording of kids laughing heard outside of a window in Barcelona. The lyrics, however, wax and wane over the longing of loving someone who lives without you by constantly living in their past, in their ‘Barcelona.’ We see this as killing the present, ending your life to only end up as a dream to those around you. This is portrayed in the video by both walking into the ocean (vis-à-vis Virginia Woolf) and a surrounding vigil of candles with no audience. You cannot help but mourn the relationship that you are in if the other person cannot be present to everything that is right in front of them.”

Gong Gong Gong 工工工 Announce ‘Phantom Rhythm Remixed’ LP – Stream Yu Su’s “Some Kind of Demon 某一種惡魔” Remix & Video
Beijing duo Gong Gong Gong 工工工’s raucous debut LP, Phantom Rhythm 幽靈節奏, was recorded live in a room, on open-reel tape, with little more than vocalist and guitarist Tom Ng’s 60-year-old Italian pawn shop guitar and bassist Joshua Frank’s 1970s imitation P-bass. The minimalist group created a drummer-less sound that was more than the sum of its parts, inspired by back-porch blues, Sahelian guitar music, New York no-wave, Cantonese lion dance percussion, and, seemingly most incongruously, techno.

Tom Odell Releases New Single + Video “monster v.2.”
Tom explains: “in 2019, my anxiety got so bad that I had to stop making music for a while. There was a period when it felt like I couldn’t leave the house without having a panic attack. I wrote this song, ‘monster’ about trying to overcome my struggles with those mental health problems. The more I’ve begun to speak about this subject, the more I’ve realized so many people are going through the same thing. I asked my fans to show me what the word ‘monster’ meant to them, and I thought I was just gonna make a 30 second video for Instagram or something, but the first time we put all the clips together I cried. It was so moving to see people being so vulnerable, so I scrapped the whole other music video I had made for the song and ended up going with this as the main music video, as it was so good. I think it’s one of the most powerful videos I’ve ever been involved with.”
