Watch Now – Islander Drops New Music Video for “What Do You Gotta Lose?”

Of the visual, Islander lead singer Mikey Carvajal says, “Filming the music video for ‘What Do You Gotta Lose?’ was an exhausting experience – physically and emotionally. We filmed it in a small church building in Georgia. The air conditioners weren’t working, so every few shots we all had to walk outside to get some air. In the video, I play a version of myself where I come back to life at my own funeral. I’m there to remind everyone to “seize the day” (yes, that’s a ‘Dead Poets Society’ reference.) It was really important for us to approach the concept of death in a way that was relatable, while also finding a bit of joy in the celebration of life. I believe this world isn’t our ‘forever home.’ However, while we are here we need to do the next thing that is in front of us. This song is a plea for anyone thinking about suicide to hold on. It’s not always easy being alive, but it’s worth it. Joy comes in the morning.”

VREID Premieres New Song + Music Video for “Spikes of God”

VREID songwriter and bass player Jarle Hváll Kvåle comments: “A new chapter from our album and movie ‘Wild North West’ is revealed, and it’s a vile and intense chapter. This song is absolutely one of the most brutal, dark and most in-your-face songs we have ever written. The main idea for this song came to me one dark night in March 2020. I became haunted by this theme and spent the whole night in studio finishing this track. Afterwards I have barely made any adjustments to the original demo for the song. I wanted its primal ugliness to shine through and let it live its life without any corrections. The movie for this song dives into a black hole of human history, and is an illustration of how far astray we can go if we are blinded by the faith of our own perfection.”

Saccades shares new single ‘Older Than Tomorrow’, new album out next week

On ‘Older Than Tomorrow’, Wood says: “I wrote this song shortly after moving back to the UK from Berlin and it’s about the bittersweet feeling of leaving something behind and starting something new in life and how change can sometimes be good. It’s also about learning to accept the beauty and the flaws in the world around you. Written initially as an acoustic ballad, it ended up in a more dream-pop style with Kat’s added backing vocals. The song title is also a nod to my favourite Byrds album, ‘Younger Than Yesterday’”.
