BURNS drops nostalgic new EP ‘Loving Touch’

UK-born, LA-based electronic talent BURNS debuts on newly relaunched label FFRR with new EP ‘Loving Touch’, out now.

A two-track release, ‘Loving Touch’ sees BURNS capture the essence of the UK hardcore sound across two vocal-laced, piano-driven dance cuts. Opening proceedings is the emotion-tinged title track, before ‘Can’t Let Go’ pairs pitched-up vocals and nostalgic piano rolls to masterful effect. The EP marks the first release for BURNS in 2021 and see’s the British producer further explore his sonic identity, having had total creative freedom during the pandemic lockdown.

Known as a founding member of tropical-psychedelia band Flamingods, the multi-instrumentalist has worked closely with Moshi Moshi Records, Soundway Records and Total Refreshment Centre.

This record was born purely from a desire to collaborate and mutual fandom. King Yosef and Youth Code started talking in August, 2019. After a lot of talk of working with each other on songs for each other’s records, the question was posed by Sara: “Why not just do an EP together?” The original idea was to just do a 4 song EP. After sending stems back and forth they quickly realized it made more sense to just keep writing since things meshed together so easily on the first four.

New Glassnote artist Luwten | new singles out today

Luwten takes its name from a Dutch word which simply means ‘place without wind’. Amsterdam-based Tessa Douwstra adopted it as the moniker for her solo abstract pop project – which fuses organic instrumentation with field recordings and sampling – so enamoured was she with the creative process of “working in a total vacuum”. Her EP of late 2020 ‘Door’ bore the unambiguous title that reflected, in Tessa’s own words; “A study of a perfectionist who acknowledges that everything’s in a constant state of flux”.

After spending all their musical lives apart, siblings Johnny and Will Griffiths finally started writing together at home in 2017. Initially rejecting, and then taking inspiration from their Dad’s collection of 80’s pop, indie and new wave the brothers settled on the name Speedboat as something which encapsulated their widescreen new wave inspired synth pop. Working from their flat the pair would swap duties on vocals, guitars, synths and keys with the writing and recording blurred into one process they produced something surprisingly expansive and cinematic.
