The band started as an informal side-project focused on experimentation with sound and texture. It initially constituted several members without specific instrument assignments or musical goals. Over time roles within the band became more defined as a two piece focused on a layered live experience with active integration of pre-recorded loops and electronic noise elements. In mid 2017 the band opted to bring on a third member to focus specifically on the low-end. From that point the band took on a more traditional feel, structuring music in the format of post-rock and post metal, with heavy influence from shoegaze. The band’s music is mostly instrumental and tends to be slow moving, defined by hypnotic evolutions, layering and density.

In either situation, the girl or the cigarette might feel good to have around in the moment, but in the long run, it can mentally and physically ruin your life.” (American Songwriter)

Lushlife Shares “Depaysement” Via FLOOD

“Across the 9:09 minutes of Depaysement, you can hear the song slowly transform from a quietly meditative loop to a headnodic jam with a hard-as-nails verse from Dälek to a full-on outre jazz freakout, like you suddenly find yourself in a different place altogether — and that’s very much on purpose,” says Raj Haldar, the man behind Lushlife. “Depaysement is a French word that captures the totality of feeling that hits you when you’re in a strange, new place for the first time. When we started working on this song, eighteen months ago, I was just thinking about that vibe in connection to being on the road playing music. Given the current moment, and since we’ve been stuck at home for almost a year now, I’m longing for that synapse-tingling feeling of traveling to new places more than ever.”

“When Mike Brown died in St. Louis, it kind of woke me up to a different side of my writing. When Saba and I finished the song, it turned out a pretty fire. Definitely felt inspired to literally plead my 45th,” Smino explained. Saba went on to say, “We wanted it to feel real. We finished our verses after seeing the movie, and seeing the movie brought our verses together in a real way.”

State Of Mind “Self Titled E.P.” – (Heavy Metal)

In 1994, four friends got together and decided they wanted to entertain the world. They decided to name their band ‘State Of Mind’ ( SOM ) because that is what music is to them, a “State of Mind” . Their influences are old school metal gods such as, Ronnie James Dio , Judas Priest , Black Sabbath , Queensryche , Iron Maiden , Pantera , Led Zeppelin etc.

The music is hard hitting and described as New Classic Metal. With the flavor of their influences guiding their way. The lyrics are written to describe ones State of Mind in any given situation, and to give those feelings an outlet other than addiction or suicide. They have lost two band members to addiction that resulted in death. RIP Scott and Brett.
