Top 2020 Albums to Listen to Stoned (so far)

Nothing goes better together than some dank bud and new tracks from your favorite artist. We may not be able to go to music festivals and live concerts for a while, but that hasn’t stopped musicians from putting out stelar albums this year. When baked, well written lyrics take on a new meaning and an overlooked bassline can reach down deep into the soul. Whether you’re stuck working from home or just feel like having some alone time after a long day, light up, fill up the bubble bath, and turn on the jams. If your go-to Spotify playlist isn’t cutting it anymore, listen through this list of the best 2020 albums so far that are amazing in their own right, but oh so much better to listen to high.

Indie/Rock

Punisher – Phoebe Bridgers

Phoebe Bridgers is a rising singer-songwriter from Los Angeles with a dark indie music style. If you’re planning on getting high and relaxing, her Punisher album is an absolutely mellow mood that is a breath of fresh air. While it’s easy to fall for every song on this album, start off with “Moon Song” andChinese Satellite” to set the tone.

Miss Anthropocene – Grimes

There’s really no artist right now like Grimes and her latest album is even darker than her last. Miss Anthropocene is a representation of what she calls the “anthropomorphic goddess of climate change”. The title of the album is a pun on “miss”, “misanthrope”, and the geologic era of “anthropocene”. Start rolling and get lost in the angelic voice and synth-pop style of Grimes.

The Slow Rush – Tame Impala

Tame Impala is known to bend genres and his latest album is no different with influences from psychedelic rock, pop, and synth. If you’re looking to totally jam out, the uplifting vibes of this album is just what you need. “Borderline” is an absolute banger that is likely to incite dancing in front of the bathroom mirror. You have been warned.

St. Cloud – Waxahatchee

The uplifting lyrics and simple melodies that will make you feel good even on your worst day. Katie serves up modern day Joni Mitchell-like vocals with an awesome retro feel. Waxahatchee started out as an acoustic solo project for P.S. Elliot lead singer Katie Crutchfield, but now always includes her jamming on the guitar alongside a full band. Start by listening to “Fire” and “Lilacs”.

Other top 2020 indie albums:

Rough and Rowdy Ways – Bob Dylan

The New Abnormal – The Strokes

Country

Southside – Sam Hunt

Sam Hunt’s Southside album dishes out melodies for those that are hopelessly in love or waiting to find that special someone who will make you want to “drive a thousand miles to your house” for. Country music fans and artists are known for also loving their bud (hello Willie Nelson) and this record, which leans more towards a pop or R&B fusion is perfect for a smoke sesh.

Hip Hop/Rap

My Turn – Lil Baby

Whether rocking out alone in the car, singing along with your friends, or getting super stoned and vibing on the couch, hip hop fans will appreciate the second album from the Atlanta rapper. My Turn mixes it up with features by Gunna, 42 Dugg, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Wayne, Moneybagg Yo, Young Thug, and Rylo Rodriguez, which helped skyrocket the album to number one on the Billboard 200.

Thank You For Using GTL – Drakeo The Ruler

Don’t be discouraged by the scratchy sounding vocals of this album, which was recorded entirely over a jail phone operated by the GTL phone company, hence the album’s title. California native Drakeo The Ruler may be incarcerated, but he never let his situation stop him from expressing himself via words. If you’re over the nonsense mumble rap, Drakeo The Ruler, called “the most original West Coast stylist in decades” by The Los Angeles Times is what you need to be listening to right now.

Other top 2020 hip hop albums:

Funeral – Lil Wayne

Music to Be Murdered By – Eminem

Eternal Atake – Lil Uzi Vert

Pop

Manic – Halsey

Halsey doesn’t disappoint with her 2020 pop record, Manic. When listening baked, it feels like she just gets you to your core. From “I got no anger, got no malice, just a little bit of regret” to “my friends are getting bored of me” or “I don’t wanna be somebody in America just fighting the hysteria,” each track has heartfelt lyrics that tell it like it is.

After Hours – The Weekend

There’s no way you lived through this year without hearing the single “Blinding Lights”. Look beyond this hit and give the rest of The Weekend’s newest album a listen all the way through (trust us, it’s worth it). This record features banger after banger with his usual falsetto vocals, sometimes eerie lyrics, and shocking music videos that top off the complete package. This is one album you should definitely roll up a fat blunt for and listen to from start to finish.
