On October 30th, fans will be able to hear what they’ve been working on in the meantime; a brand new full-length album aptly titled Take You On A Ride.

OUT TODAY | Scottish harpist/composer Adenine’s self-titled debut album

The anthropologist Franz Boas made a somewhat spurious claim in 1911 that some Inuit-Yupik-Unangan languages had hundreds of different words for snow, perhaps playing into dated cliche and xenophobia. However, it’s not wrong to say that there are quite a few Scottish words for rain in its many forms – and some of these are used as song titles on the self-titled debut album from Scottish harpist Adenine.

Adenine, which is out everywhere today, was made by composer, harpist, vocalist and sound recorder Ailie Robertson under the name Adenine and is a record about nature and our place in the landscape. The song titles – Smirr, Spindrift, Flindrikin, Aftak and Haar – all refer to types of rain – from light drizzle, to sea spray to a coastal mist – but they also represent the erosion of nature and the gradual disappearance of language connected to nature, supplanted by the next word of the year in the OED.

DIALOGIA: Maryland Dark Progressive Death Metal Trio Unveils “Conundrum” Single

A staggering, conceptual sonic journey, the ten-track Nostrum unweaves a collection of ciphers, gathering a disparate cast of musicians to urge you to cross the threshold of shadows into the ether. The album entices its listeners to traverse skeletal voids into a world that wails, filled with the seismic shudders of voices that were never meant to be known. These are exotic surroundings, from serene, disembodied soundscape to a vicious percussive maelstrom, from stagnant shadowy waters to the harsh judgment of breathing stone… but they may feel hauntingly familiar to a select few.
