On Lamentations frontman BJ Barham skillfully dissects the Southern experience while offering empathy as the lights continue to dim. Although written earlier, Lamentations feels eerily current, as “A Better South” implores his Southern community to do better. He sings “Proud of who I am and where I’m from, But I ain’t so proud of how far we’ve come.” With monuments falling and consciousness raising, the song and album are so relevant, especially right now.

Lydia Loveless today shared her captivating, melancholic new single “Wringer” alongside its video, directed by herself and Michael Casey. The song is the second preview track from her new album Daughter, due out September, 25th, 2020, via her new label Honey, You’re Gonna Be Late Records, and follows the chiming lead single “Love Is Not Enough.” “Michael and I started making videos for the record right as the country started to go into lockdown, and ‘Wringer’ is a song about feeling trapped in a situation, so the horror theme made sense,” explains Loveless. “My friend Tony, who plays the kidnapper, is married to a mycologist and they have a huge lab on their property. I went over to scope out the lab and Tony said ‘Hey, I could put you in this pit. That would be really creepy!’ It was a great day of playing around and feeling creative in a time when everything felt horrific and uncertain.” Daughter–her first album in four years–marks the triumphant return of Loveless and documents her self-aware journey into independence.

“‘lmho’ was written around the time come out. you’re hiding was completed. Most of my lyrics try to look at the bright side, but this song had no barriers. I was simply spilling my sadness, confusion, and heartache into our music,” shared flor frontman Zach Grace. “There are points in our lives where we feel completely out-of-control and stuck, and I did my best to be honest with myself and write exactly how I was feeling. Four years later, and our world is at a halt—some of these feelings have a way of coming back again.”

“The ‘Beatrice’ video was unique to do because we were actually playing our instruments. In most music videos you’re meant to only pretend like you’re playing but Ryan was really keen on making the performance feel genuine- and after being apart for so long due to COVID we were stoked to be able to just hang out together and jam for a few hours. Having our gear plugged in for hours made the mirror room extremely hot and by the last take we were sweaty and tired and a little buzzed- so basically, we got our tour fix despite the looming pandemic outside the studio,” notes frontwoman Katie Munshaw.

East London native Chinwe is a singer-songwriter and producer who sights Nina Simone and Portishead amongst some of her biggest influences. The daughter of a Nigerian father and a Jamaican Mother – Chinwe was exposed to an eclectic range of music from an early age. Having taken classical violin lessons for several years, she eventually ditched the violin in favour of teaching herself the guitar. The self-taught musician started writing songs in her early teens, and shortly after began experimenting with production as another outlet for her creativity.
