New music: Aaron Smith releases hew EP’ For My Father’ today through Platoon

Much like the offerings unveiled so far, ‘Unconditional’ aims to confront the demons that haunted his adolescence and how, as an adult, he can reflect on those experiences and use his songwriting to truly express the impact that those times have had on him. This new release is more of a love letter to those that he cares about most in his life. Written during an isolated period in his life, he looks to show just how much he cares about those around him and how he has grown to appreciate human connections in his life.

DARLING BOY – Salutes The Rock Greats With New Single “Air Conditioned Gypsy”

Borrowing its title from a lyric in The Who classic ‘Going Mobile’, ‘Air Conditioned Gypsy’ has all the vim and vigour of that Who’s Next cut, while archly weaving-in Smiths-y interloping guitars and an Oasis-like bravado. The creation and homage of a true music aficionado, Darling BOY proudly wears his influences on his sleeve here and fashions them into something fresh, exciting and entirely his own.

NEWS: ‘Yours, Millie McGuire,’ debut album from rising North Carolina singer Millie McGuire

Millie McGuire, a 20-year-old singer from Chapel Hill, N.C., is not famous. Not yet, that is. But behind the scenes, musicians are talking: Mike Mills (R.E.M., Baseball Project), with whom she appeared in Big Star’s Third concerts, says she is his “favorite new voice of the last five years.” Single co-producer Dan Wilson (Semisonic, Adele, Katie Perry, Taylor Swift) insists “Millie’s voice is the real-deal, well-oiled music machine. Damn! — I love listening to her sing.” Peter Holsapple (The dB’s, Hootie & the Blowfish), with whom she dueted for Wild Honey’s 2019 Kinks concert in L.A., joins in: “Millie McGuire is a preternaturally talented singer, with grace and poise beyond her years, and her vocal abilities are remarkable.” And Pat Sansone (Wilco, the Autumn Defense) agrees: “Millie has a rare and textured voice that possesses a combination of strength and vulnerability . . . I’ve been knocked out by her every time I’ve heard her sing, whether on stage or in the studio.”

OUT TODAY: Anton Barbeau ‘Manbird’

Psychedelic singer-songwriter Anton Barbeau has announced he will be releasing the ‘Manbird’ double LP on September 18 via Gare du Nord (UK) and Beehive Sound (USA). Ahead of this, he presents the ‘Manbird’ single with b-side ‘The Art of Beaking’, along with a video created by Julia VBH.

Hitting the 30+ album mark, it would seem inevitable that this Berlin-based Sacramento-raised artist would release a bird-and-suitcase-themed autobiographical double album focused on his hometown. While reviewers always seem to refer to the holy triumvirate of XTC, Julian Cope and Robyn Hitchcock, ‘Manbird’ doesn’t reveal any obvious influence.

Millie Manders & the Shutup’s New Single ‘Bitter’

Bitter is the latest release from Millie Manders and the Shutup, the final track to be released before their debut album Telling Truth, Breaking Ties and which sees no let-up in the ferocity of either the music or the message. Bitter is a track which not only features the soaring choruses and venomous, punk/ska attack which the band have become renowned for, but also lyrics which deal with the abandonment, callousness, cowardice and maltreatment which arises from rape and sexual abuse, as well as the bitterness that arises in the wake of it. It is the truth, honesty and bravery to tackle subjects which society so regularly shirks from addressing which set Millie Manders and the Shutup apart as one of 2020’s most important, talked-about bands.

One morning Godin was there sitting on the couch “I asked him if he was in music and he replied, ‘Yes, I am. Actually, my partner and I are putting out a record, and we’d like you to be on it’”, she recalls.

Cory Marks releases debut album ‘WHO I AM’

“What inspired me to be featured was really Cory’s heart, you could really hear that he was speaking from his truth and you could just feel the pain and the purgatory of whatever was happening to him at the time that inspired him to write that song,” says Hale. “And my favourite part of the whole song is this conversation that Cory and I are having. It’s such a realistic look at love and a couple’s journey together. My favourite part is that you can’t really tell no matter how many times you listen to it. Are they breaking up? Are they getting back together? Are they just weathering the storm? I think you should decide.”

Viral artist Josie Proto shares gratitude-filled new single “Thank You”

Josie explains of “Thank You”: “The song is incredibly literal; it came from remembering a friend of mine from when I was maybe 6 or 7 and wanting to know if I had same impact on him as he did on me. I wrote the lyrics almost instantly and the melody and chords came secondary for this one; it was really a poem before a song. There were so many stories of small, yet impactful meetings and crossings that I wanted to incorporate, but the ones that I felt were most important were ones that had either left me with a phrase that I have remembered or a sense of guilt. It’s amazing how a very small interaction can make you feel guilty about the most minute things. We kept the production simple, I wanted to maintain the raw and honest message without confusing, overpowering instruments. I hope ‘Thank You’ reminds people to be kind and grateful for the small things.”
