Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter, producer, and independent label owner, Emmett Kai, unveiled the first installment in an ambitious release schedule planned for 2020 this morning via the release of “High For Weeks”. This first new offering of the decade from the multi-faceted artist is full of the infectious, LoFi Pop that garnered high praise and a growing follow for Emmett over the past couple of years. Still, it is laced with a maturity and confidence that indicates this next set of singles will mark the start of an important creative chapter in the young artist’s life. The track’s refrain of “Be The One For Yourself” offers an uplifting message to the listener while inevitably pushing them towards the dancefloor. For the official video, which was also released today, we follow Emmett, comfortable in his own skin, as he dances his way through a series of otherwise mundane scenarios. His use of color, wardrobe and some pretty sweet moves make it the perfect vehicle to deliver “High For Weeks”.
Speaking on “High For Weeks”, Emmett Kai says:
“I wanted to write a song for people with low self esteem or confusion of self. Being in the age of social media and growing up in a secluded atmosphere can lead to feeling isolated & misunderstood. If I could write a song that encouraged me to happily be myself, maybe it would encourage others in the same position to do the same.”
