20 years ago Ghostly International sprang onto the scene from a cultural void left with the collapse of the traditional music business. Since its days operating out of Sam Valenti IV’s dorm room in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the company has grown from a boutique record label known for its experimental-pop and techno acumen into an internationally recognized multicultural platform representing some of the world’s best visual artists, designers, technologists, and musicians. Ghostly continues to evolve, always incorporating new sounds and new facets to its cultural identity.

<PIG> Premieres “Mobocracy” video
“‘MOBOCRACY’ is rule by the mob,” says Raymond Watts, mastermind behind post-punk stalwarts <PIG> about the meaning behind the title of his latest single and EP. “The song decries the meltdown of morality and the rise of mobocracy, which is fueled and whipped up by the poison that pours from the perma-tanned reality stars running the asylum, who cheer and steer the frenzy of bitterness, bile and hatred that is in turn fed by their own fear.” Biting and politically on-point, “Mobocracy” returns the hard-edged, serrated industrial edge to <PIG>’s sound, following the experimental and critically-hailed covers album CANDY.
Emily Breeze wields axe in American Psycho inspired video for ‘Work’
The third single from forthcoming Emily Breeze album Rituals (Out September 6th) is a shimmering indie pop anthem entitled “Work”. The glossy sonic exterior and radio friendly chorus act as a foil for the ice cold cynicism and pitch black humour of the lyrics which were inspired by Patrick Bateman (American Psycho) and Emily’s own experiences of hauling herself out of bed every morning to make a pointless profit for somebody else.

Tapeworm is an album about being a human in the 21st century. The songs touch on many different topics such as climate change, capitalism, nostalgia and the echo chamber in which the internet allows us to exist, though the overarching theme of the record is the anxiety of living in our current political and social climate. The album takes a conscious step away from previous releases which relied heavily on fuzzed out overdubbed guitars and reverb and delay drenched vocals. Tapeworm instead focuses on capturing a very natural, barebones depiction of the music, relying more on dynamics and room sound to create a spacious atmosphere rather than effects units. Tapeworm was recorded over the course of a weekend with Justin Pizzoferrato (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Speedy Ortiz) at Sonelab Studios, and mastered by Carl Saff at Saff Mastering.

Speaking about the new single frontman Mez Green said the following:
“Bum Hour is the isolation when you shut your door. Bum Hour is about not being at ease on your own. Bum Hour is ‘that’ pattern and routine broken. It’s the need to live again in that moment as you watch the bars buzz from your lone-parent window. Your only comfort, your saviour, your little boy in his bedroom. You find yourself scrolling through your phone an act of self-harm and torture. Your mates are out – you lie down and sleep.”

“Come Undone,” the new single from indie-folk artist Jeri Silverman, was written upon returning home to South Africa after a tumultuous exit from New York City. After living there for 10 years, her Green Card was unexpectedly denied and she was given two weeks to pack up her life and leave. The single celebrates a rekindling of the imagination. It explores the shadowy sides of our personality that we hide from the world and invites them out to play.

Available on both Tove Lo’s forthcoming full-length ‘Sunshine Kitty’ (out September 20th) and Jax Jones’ album ‘SNACKS’ (out September 6th), ‘Jacques’ was born out of a mutual admiration for each other’s work, with the collaboration cooking for quite some time. Detailing a fun and flirty exchange told by Tove Lo about a rendezvous she once had with a French guy called Jacques. The alluring anecdote and sultry pop vocals are underpinned by an underground heavy house beat and catchy bassline making nod to Jax’s deep house roots.
