SOCIAL ACTIVISM DURING WOODSTOCK’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND CELEBRATIONS

The Woodstock festival in 1969 had an indelible impact on scores of people and led many to become social activists. Woodstock alumnus Steve Gold feels that spirit of working to help others and improve the world should be front and center at the events marking the concert’s 50th anniversary. To that end, he’s using the original Woodstock stage to rally people for common sense gun control.

“I want my generation and younger generations to learn from the lessons of Woodstock that we have the ability to make change happen,” says Gold, co-founder of Peace of Stage which owns the original Woodstock stage. “The stage is a physical reminder of the concert, and we are turning it into a platform to call for gun sale background checks and a Red Flag law. It’s time to awaken the spirit of Woodstock.”

DROOGS – “Make You Laugh”

‘Make You Laugh’ is the debut single from Bristolian slacker punk band DROOGS. A loser love song from an anti hero’s perspective, lead singer Joe confesses that he “Can’t buy you a house, but the room in my mum’s house is lovely” and “I can’t take you to a posh restaurant but McDonald’s do amazing deal’s” all delivered with expert comic timing and Pil era John Lydon sarcasm set to a hook-laden, grinding rhythm laid down by Sam Taylor (drums) and Ben Fisher (bass).

Hallucinate in the Desert w/Young Dolph, Key Glock, and Dolphins in “Water On Water On Water” Video

Taking over the rap game with their blunt force lyricism and unrelenting freshness, Young Dolph and Key Glock set a new gold standard for independent rappers. Today, Dolph and Glock drop “Water On Water On Water,” an epic new video packed with exotic locations and special effects. Echoing the unlimited-budget rap videos that dominated MTV in the early 2000s, the video, premiered by The FADER, finds Dolph & Glock taking a troupe of models to a shark-filled tank, racing camo-wrapped sports cars through desert plains, and bringing a zebra to a mansion party.

Gutter Sparrow share gorgeous pastoral new single “Sheridan”

Gutter Sparrow is the songwriting pseudonym of John Mosloskie, who’s tender folk sounds effortless in it’s execution. This week, we announced his forthcoming sophomore album, The Waker Dreams, and shared it’s lead single “Sheridan”. A gorgeous, driving track that recalls early Red House Painters in it’s melancholic beauty. It perfectly captures the stark beauty of vast American landscapes, where negative space and grand, psychical mass exist in harmony.

WATCH YELLA BEEZY’S FIRST PART OF THE “AINT NO GOIN BACC”: YELLA BEEZY DOCUMENTARY

In the gripping and often heartbreaking clip, the Dallas, TX rapper returns to the site of his father’s murder for the first time. The rising star tours the house where his dad died from a fatal gunshot wound after picking up a snake outside—when Yella Beezy was just weeks shy of his 13th birthday. The MC recounts the story without sparing any detail.

SPEELBURG RELEASES “SAY HELLO” AS HEARD ON THE GOOGLE PIXEL 4 ANNOUNCEMENT

“I once made a mixtape on a mini disc called ‘Songs To Walk Into A Room To,’ says Speelburg, “the idea being, if you were to walk into a room, what would be the best movie moment soundtrack – all songs with the same explosive nature as Kool And The Gang’s ‘Jungle Boogie’ or John Williams’ ‘Duel Of The Fates’ (from Star Wars Episode I). ‘Say Hello’ attempts to outdo all of those.” When asked about the song being used in the Google Pixel ad, Speelburg said, “as someone who spends a lot of time watching Bradley Cooper interviews on youtube, I’m glad the song in the sponsored ad is something I recognize.”

Comethazine Lays Down “50 Bars” in a Breathless 99 Seconds

Rhyming with a snarly intensity, Comethazine is an endless source of pure evil bars. Stepping up his game for his latest lyrical exercise, Comethazine shares “50 Bars,” a new single. Slowly picking up steam atop a minimal, bass-heavy beat, the Alamo Records signee isn’t bragging–he’s just speaking facts: “Yeah I bought me a jet, but got no one to fly that shit/Think that he fly but he know I’m the flyest in/Binoculars, I ain’t seen nobody fly as this.” Released on his SoundCloud, “50 Bars” follows recent videos for “ACT” and “FIND HIM!”
