Swimming Bell Shares the Lovely “For Brinsley”

Swimming Bell is the solo project of Brooklyn-based folk singer Katie Schottland. She began to write after she broke her foot in the fall of 2015, learning some basic chords by printing out a chord sheet to learn to play Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon”. Having had no musical training she approaches writing melodies and progressions by ear.

The lead single and video “San Diego (When You Coming Home)” show Muller in his element: Upbeat, melodic, and honest. The lyrics speak straight to an absent partner, embued with the all too familiar feeling of profound joy and equally profound heartache that accompanies love. The video finds him sitting alone holding his phone, and the lyrics pour forth as texts from him to his missing partner.
