The theme is that there is no theme. The pop genre is so broad that I feel I have so much freedom and space to make whatever I want to make.”

Music Submission: The Band of the Hawk – FAM
Houston’s own The Band of the Hawk known for channeling the ’90s Hip-Hop era in it’s rawest form recently dropped “F. A. M. (Fine Ass Momma)” featuring Sage Majesty in anticipation of the forthcoming release, Family Ties. The hit single pays homage to a Comedy movie classic ‘Friday After Next’ while their single artwork is from the original ‘Friday’-Hey, Mrs. Parker! The track is pulled from the forthcoming album, Family Ties, and is a raw Boom Bap or Lofi Hip-Hop song showcasing lyrics from two cousins representing the collective Sage Majesty. “Look to sky and see the hawks fly…” Their lyrics are technical as they spit bars on top of a classic bass drum and snare keeping cadence. It’s poetry, it’s hip-hop. The album Family Ties is slated to be released Friday, March 15, 2019 during South By South West (SXSW) in Austin, TX.

Cola James Releases Debut Single “Black & White” (March 8)
Cola James says of the project: “As soon as I walked into the studio with Mike Nicastro we started having fun. Us recording looks like we are having a party. We both like to get people moving during live shows so it was natural for us to make a high energy dance tune. ‘Black & White’ came together in one day. We both didn’t really know each other at the time but it was easy to see that there was no end in sight for creating together.”
Matt says of the track, “I actually wrote “Go Easy” not too long after I wrote “Cringe”- I was trying to fix a lot of mistakes I’d made, and it took a lot longer than I expected. I beat myself up until my mistakes seemed easier to make again because I lacked a sense of forgiveness and understanding from people I loved. At the time, Neon Gold invited me to a writing camp in the jungle of Nicaragua and I had a session with Captain Cuts (three wonderful human beings). We sat around trying to write for half a day and basically gave up until Ryan McMahon played a little riff on the guitar. I started writing to it and boom, within just a few hours “Go Easy” existed. That doesn’t happen often but when it does, there is something sincere about it.”
