@skopemag Q&A Feat Jon Allen

So here we are on a Friday and it does not get better than this. Today we have crossed over to the UK to have a pint with JON ALLEN a singer-songwriter. Jon released his new album ‘Blue Flame’ in May of this year so lets talk about that and so much more!

@skopemag: Where are we talking from today?

I live in an area of South East London called Blackheath. It’s a green place that fells like a small town on the corner of a big metropolis.

@skopemag: When you began your journey in music were your family/friends supportive?

Yes. I have been lucky in the sense that I was never told to ‘get a proper job’. However, a few years ago my dad asked me ‘are you still going to keep going with the music career?’ Yes, Dad!

@skopemag: What is it about music that you knew this was more important than all other artistic endeavors

I found something about music that moved me from an early age. When I found a song I loved I would listen to it again and again. It felt like magic.

@skopemag: What do you think makes some artist/bands resonate with the masses when others do not?

Timing and luck, definitely! Coldplay filled the void left by Radiohead, who had built a huge audience with two big albums The Bend and OK Compute, but then chose to make an esoteric, electronica record instead of an indie rock one. Adele’s retro soul filled the vacuum left by the death of Amy Winehouse.

@skopemag: When you are not doing music what else do you enjoy?

I am addicted to playing tennis. It might be my midlife crisis.

@skopemag: What kind of environment & mood do you feel most creative towards your music?

When I am feeling good enough about myself to feel confident to write but thoughtful enough to have something to say.
