Swedish musician Leo Spauls collaborates with David Bowie’s pianist, Mike Garson
Leo Spauls is a musician based in Sweden who started his artistic career in theater with childhood friends just outside of Stockholm. Having written pop songs for over 25 years, Spauls released his debut album in 2016 and his second release, a collaboration with David Bowie’s pianist Mike Garson, will be out on June 8th.
“Mike has been an idol of mine ever since I heard him play on 1974’s David, Live in Philadelphia album, the first record I ever bought. Being a trained pianist myself, I don’t know anyone who combines classical and jazz influences as he does. It’s very inspiring to see what other people can do with your music, as long as you feel confident in what’s going on. I wanted to see what other people could do.”

TROPICS Shares Last Single From Forthcoming Album ‘Nocturnal Souls’
British vocalist, songwriter and producer TROPICS has today shared the final taster of his forthcoming third album, with the dreamy and romantic ‘Velvet’. The track features on the highly accomplished LP ‘Nocturnal Souls’, which will be released on 29th June via + FOURS. It follows the previously released ‘Keep Me Turning Back’, which was co-written and co-produced by ex-label bandmates and friends BADBADNOTGOOD.
How Could You Ever Be The Same? also highlights the paradoxical blend of neuroticism and mysticism of lead-singer Bradford Bucknum, whose vocal delivery oscillates between semi-theatrical energetic bursts to gentle, sugary crooning. At times, despairing wit and questionable advice buoyantly tumble over a sea of lush strings; at other times, the songs dig their heels in the genre and the classic-rock enthusiasm of Mike Sobel’s guitar, the steady but experimental rhythms of Stephen Robbins’ focused and passionate drumming and Dan Wolgemuth’s unique and melodic bass playing. The music is both familiar, yet fresh – it hints at nostalgia without stumbling into kitsch. At some moments the music sounds urbane, almost high-brow and literary, and at others times, it’s wild and unrefined.

Someone you’ve just met at a party, they’re super cool, it’s about to be a cheeky night. The song embodies that sentiment,” laughs Halima, who got familiar with the term while growing up in London, where she moved from Nigeria at a young age. “Nick said we should definitely put it in the chorus. “Hotspice, hotspice” came into the sound, I ended up recording it, and it stuck.”
