At the moment there is a massive redevelopment going on which will eventually force a lot of independent businesses out of the area – I have a real connection to all the music and art stores and to see people trying to tear out its soul makes me super upset and really pissed off. FUCK THAT! Tin Pan Alley is where the foundations of British rock and roll and the pop music that we know today were built. Everyone from Jagger to Lennon to the Sex Pistols used to hang out there. To sit back and watch the transformation happen without saying something is not an idea that I’m into.”

Chris Cornell To Be Presented With Inaugural Promise Award
The Los Angeles Committee of Human Rights Watch has announced today that it will be presenting the inaugural Promise Award at this year’s dinner on November 14th. Inspired by the film and song that powerfully depicted the atrocities committed against the Armenian people, the award recognizes an outstanding song, television show, or film that advances the values of equity and justice in an original and powerful way. Fittingly, the inaugural honor will be given to the late legendary singer and songwriter Chris Cornell in recognition of his song, The Promise. The award will be presented at The Voices for Justice Human Rights Watch Annual Dinner at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Tuesday, November 14th at 6:30PM.
The pioneering recording artist Chris Cornell, who sadly passed away in May, wrote the title song for the film, The Promise, the first major film about the Armenian Genocide. The song and its video fittingly weave the Genocide with humanitarian crises of today. The song focuses on courage, perseverance, and hope — connecting us to emotions that characterize and amplify the worldwide struggle for human rights. Cornell donated all proceeds from the song to benefit refugees and children, and his song continues to inspire millions as an anthem for the human rights movement.

Ron Gallo Releases Split 7-inch With Naked Giants Via New West
Ron Gallo has teamed up with the Seattle-based trio Naked Giants for a split 7-inch via New West Records featuring his new song, “Sorry Not Everybody Is You,” b/w Naked Giants’ “The Age Of Information.” Of the song and collaboration, Gallo offers, “‘Sorry Not Everybody’ is a song for those who live with hatred and direct it towards other human beings. Hatred is a mental illness. An extreme case of the illness we all have – a delusional sense of self, or ego, that allows our individual thoughts or opinions seem important enough to dictate our reality. It also makes it seem like we are separate from all other things, or in this case superior, when in reality we are all parts to a singular whole. No one really knows anything and so we run around trying to make sense of it all by labeling things by country, color, beliefs, thoughts, jobs, values, genders, etc. But truth is, none of these divisions exist and just create the mess we are in. No human is inherently evil, just unconscious and fueled by fear.
Good Boy Release New EP ‘Shirk Life’ On Barely Dressed Records
Australian, post-punk band Good Boy release their scorching EP Shirk Life. Shirk Life is a whip-smart, catchy-as-hell snapshot of living in Brisbane in your early 20’s from one of Australia’s most exciting young punk bands.
Until recently, Good Boy never thought of themselves as a political band but sometimes the times just force your hand. Released last week with an incredible video (above), the EP’s first track “A Waste Of 122 Million Dollars (Taxpayer Funded)” spits a self-explanatory message about the absurd and insulting marriage equality plebiscite. Similarly, “Fishing With A Shotgun” and “Hell in a Handbasket” seethe with frustration about the seeming non-choice between neo-liberal, right-wing and conservative politicians.
