DJ Snake Performs On Top Of The Arc De Triomphe
Last night DJ Snake made history by performing atop the Arc De Triomphe to a global online audience of more than 1.5 million. This celebrates his monumental accession from the South West suburbs of Paris to this special moment in French history and culture. DJ Snake is the first performing artist afforded permission by the Centre Des Monuments Nationaux and the city of Paris to do so.
The event began with a piece shot in Paris during the day, which shows DJ Snake’s journey from his childhood to standing on the roof of one of the world’s most famous buildings.
Paris is my city. My home. It’s the place where I grew up, that taught me life. I am inspired by these streets, a melting pot of so many cultures. I was asked to do this for Paris. To give back to the city that gave me so much. I wanted to present my journey, my music, my new song, in my city. These streets to feel it first. And to all of you who watched at home who have supported me on this journey. To the top of my world. Merci.

In October, Joyful Noise will be issuing a special vinyl-only Surfer Blood album of covers – a limited edition of 1000 copies – available only through mail order and at upcoming tour dates.
“This one-time vinyl pressing features Surfer Blood covering some wildly disparate artists like Outkast, Pavement, Cream, Mudhoney, Modern English, and of course Polaris (aka, the theme-song from The Adventures of Pete & Pete).
Guitarist Chris Broderick says, “‘Overexposure’ is a track about not selling out and maintaining convictions about your art. I think this song has a great chorus and flows extremely well. As for the solo, I wanted it to start very melodic and build to the end where it erupts in intensity. Henry wrote all of the lyrics and most of the music to this song – it is a testament to his musicality and artistic integrity. For the video we enlisted and tortured Vince Edwards from Metal Blade Records to film it and he killed it… in a good way! The dark filtering, camera work and edits match the intensity of the song and give it life. Enjoy!”
37 Adventures are proud to unveil ‘Too Rough’, the debut single by North London vocalist Samson Ashe. An alt-pop gem boasting a classic Rn’B touch, ‘Too Rough’ recalls both The Avalanches’ colourful beats and Solange’s soulful vocal stylings. The track was co-written and produced by P*Nut (Amy Winehouse, Wiley) and mixed by Ben Baptie (Adele, Mark Ronson, Lady Gaga).
Mr. Lif & Akrobatik’s (The Perceptionists) new video for “Dirty Drumz” is as raw as can be. Set in back alleys and boiler rooms, the dark, grimy tone of the song is perfectly reflected in the video. Directed by Rove Lab (Jay Brown & Gabe Bornstein), the music video balances grimy imagery with sleek photography. A standout song from Mr. Lif & Akrobatik’s long awaited reunion album, Resolution, Dirty Drumz is a back to basics approach to hiphop. In a world of autotune and color correction, the song stands out as pure talent and craft.

GUITARIST LOU DiBELLO SHOWCASES HIS SKILLS ON ‘HEAT WAVE’
The art of six-stringer shredding has unquestionably come back to forefront in modern day hard rock and heavy metal music. And talented guitarist Lou DiBello will soon be leaving his own mark on the genre, with the release of his album, ‘Heat Wave.’ The album features input from current or former members of Manowar (guitarist Ross “The Boss” Friedman) and Symphony X (bassist Mike Lepond), and is chockfull of headbanging rockers and six-string showcases, especially the tune “Full Throttle,” which can be sampled here.
Mavis Staples has again joined forces with songwriter-producer Jeff Tweedy for a new album entitled If All I Was Was Black, out this November 17th.
Mavis will join Bob Dylan for a series of North American live dates beginning in October.
The history Mavis recalls from her early years touring with her family as The Staple Singers, the prejudice, ugliness and danger, well it’s all still here. In response, the singer has delivered If All I Was Was Black, ten songs about contemporary America today, a present day filled with ghosts of the past. “Nothing has changed,” Mavis remarked in early August, just days before neo-Nazis marched with swastika flags in Charlottesville, Virginia, as a young woman was murdered. “We are still in it.”
Shigeto shares blistering “Don’t Trip” feat. Detroit’s Silas Green
It’s been four years since Zach Saginaw, aka Shigeto, returned home to Michigan from a stint in Brooklyn, NY, and since then, the multi-faceted musician has become a part of the fabric of Detroit’s music scene. While always having a personal approach to his projects, Saginaw’s influences for his third album, The New Monday, are more about the community of Detroit than anything else. And the community comes through clearly on the new track “Don’t Trip,” which features the vocals of Detroit emcee Silas Green guiding the listener through Shigeto’s assertive, spiraling production.
Folk single from Mike Mangione & The Kin
The orchestral folk/rock group Mike Mangione & The Kin will be releasing their new record But I’ve Seen The Stars on October 20th, but they’ve teamed up with Huffington Post to premiere the new single “Riding Down.”
Mangione says “The song is based out of the classic question of who am I, what am I and where am I going? Roots music has a long tradition in dealing with either running toward or away from light/darkness. This song swims in the same waters. In this case the protagonist is fighting to break out and run towards the good and he knows that when he finally gets free the hounds will be howling.”
Frozen Nation Release Debut LP, ‘Dark Belgian Disco’
Belgian based, dark synth-pop act Frozen Nation has released their debut LP, Dark Belgian Disco via Sub-Continental Music. What they describe as a “hazardous crossover between darkwave, goth, EDM and disco music,” Dark Belgian Disco has a nostalgic New Wave sensibility infused with energetic dance beats, brooding vocals, and crisp, modern production that will appeal to fans across the genre spectrum.
About six years after its last release under the moniker of NOX, Belgian Indie/doom/jazz/post-rock/psychedelic/neo-classical trio Nile On WaX will release a brand new full-length effort called ‘Bell Dogs’ coming out on October 2nd through dEPOT214 Records.

Jessica Lea Mayfield’s “Offa My Hands” premieres at LENNY
“Offa My Hands” is the third song unveiled from Mayfield’s anticipated new album, Sorry Is Gone, which will be released September 29 on ATO Records and is now available for pre-order. Of the new music, LENNY asserts, “Mayfield seems primed to enjoy not only another strong album but to harness its moment in the service of others.”
Mark Hoppus has contributed the track “Not Every Dog Goes To Heaven” which was inspired by the classic film, National Lampoon’s Vacation, to the charity album, Dog Songs. The project was the brainchild of Allie Goertz and Casey Boyd to raise money for ASPCA (American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) specifically to help dogs who were affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Mark explains how his involvement came about, “I became friends with Allie Goertz on twitter a while ago and she reached out about writing a song dedicated to a dog from a movie or TV show, to benefit the ASPCA via a compilation album. As a dog lover, I was honored to be asked. I wanted to write an anti-tribute to Dinky, the total bummer of a dog from Vacation, one of my favorite films of all time. Last week I went into the studio with John Feldmann and we bashed out the guitars, bass, and vocals in a morning. Travis came in that afternoon and absolutely destroyed the drums. It was all finished in a matter of 3-4 hours. In a matter of days it went from an idea in the back of my head to a song on an album out in the world. It’s a fun, energetic track that I’m proud to have included on the album, and it’s for a great cause.”
LA Based, Norwegian producer and DJ, Bearson has revealed his latest track, a soothing collaborative effort with British singer, Mr Hudson, titled ‘Cold War.’ The production, which is out now via Ultra Records, features a slowed tempo and brooding intro, displaying the LA-based producer’s highly skilled production prowess.
Underpinned by melodic clicks, and a melancholic breakdown, ‘Cold War’ is laced with the unmistakably smooth vocals of Mr Hudson, most famed for his Kanye West, DJ Snake, and Jay-Z collaborations. The Birmingham-based singer has also enjoyed huge success on JP Cooper’s ‘September Song’.
