A Valley Son (Brooklyn) announce debut album

But The World Moves is the follow-up to A Valley Son’s critically-acclaimed debut Sunset Park EP that came out in January, solidifying the band as one that puts songwriting, emotion and musicianship back at the forefront. The band’s new album reflects on frontman Trey Powell’s childhood growing up in the rural tidal plains of eastern Virginia, where he was surrounded by little more than farmland and the two rivers that carved out the Middle Peninsula. Powell felt shut in, restless, reckless… with such little outside cultural or mental stimulation things felt grim, and he responded accordingly, and, often, destructively.

The songs on their new album reflect this youthful reality. With three of the four members growing up in the south and eventually leaving, the songs are heavily influenced by the experiences gained after arriving in New York City. The record attempts to reconcile the world of one’s youth with the one we call home as adults, all while dealing with what it means for the people we become. The core question being, does anyone ever really get away?

Secret Weapons “Ghost”

Hailing from New York City, Secret Weapons managed to combine the dark and youthful themes of hope, struggle, and yearning with gripping synth and guitar driven-rock music. The two piece met in high school and the first incarnation of the band began by writing in a studio apartment by day and throwing parties in Brooklyn by night, most of which quickly descended into chaos. Influenced by a range of styles, from Queen, Steve Winwood, and the Killers to the soundscapes of Depeche Mode and Daft Punk, they soon began to apply their pop and gospel-influenced hooks to the wall-of-sound backdrops they created.
