Have you listened to the Radio lately? Is it me or is something wrong with today’s music? Do you remember when music actually had really instruments in them with real people playing them? No kidding. How about good songwriting, performed by artists that not only wrote the music, but poured their heat and soul into performing them as well? Now when one listens to the radio what do you hear: a pretty face, cookie cutter songwriting, crafted via a microphone, some fancy sampling and a mix that sounds more like a commercial than a piece of music. Roadcase Royale just released a new single entitled Not Giving Up (single). This band is headed up by Heart’s Nancy Wilson. Wilson is joined on this by Liv Warfield (vocals), Ryan Waters (guitar), Ben Smith (drums) and Chris Joyner (keys) and Dan Rothchild (bass). Together they have created a tune that should be quite familiar for anyone who knows the hard rocking side of Heart. It should appeal to fans of hard edge classic rock. This has an air of familiarity with some definite freshness in the mix. It’s strong stuff for sure.
The first thing that pops out when you look at information about this band is the name of the lady who does both vocals and guitar here. That lady is none other than Nancy Wilson, one of the two sisters who are the core of the band Heart. That connection really raises the bar high. This song rises to the challenge, really winning the battle. The tune really doesn’t feel far removed from the kinds of music that Heart typically does. One of the biggest influences on Heart was Led Zeppelin. The intro riff (that is brought back throughout the tune) really calls to mind Zeppelin a lot. With regards to this latest single I have to say was extremely impressed. This single made quite the first impression with me as I gave it my full and unadulterated attention over a dozen times. The whole song from start to finish is full of what I would call positive/passionate energy with music that appeals to so many different senses on so many different levels. I can also hear the slight Alternative Rock, Hard Rock influence in there as well, mixed with a lot of soul up front from Warfield. What I really like about “Not Giving Up” is there is no attempt to sugar coat the truth or deliver what I call over the top rock, i/e cheesy music with a pretty face via top flight sampling, cookie cutter songwriting via a mix that sounds more like a commercial than a piece of music.

“Not Giving Up” will also appeal to both advanced and novice listeners alike – but make no bones about it this song has a rock n’ roll backbone. Like a three layered cake “Not Giving Up” is one single that has a lot of depth in both its message and instrumentation. Whether it’s musically, lyrically, inspirationally, emotionally, and spiritually – if you feel like music is taking us in the wrong direction than rest assured Roadcase Royal headed up by Nancy Wilson and the gang is taking us back in the right direction with “Never Giving Up.”
