SKOPE NEWS FOR APRIL 26, 2017

Upcoming Re-Imagining of Calvin Harris’ “Slide”

Rather than pursue the monotonous chip-chopping or basic percussive additions of many remixes, Shoffy breathes new life into the track with original additions — including a blues guitar, Wurlitzer, and his own vocals. While technically a remix, there’s a ton of original appeal here.

THOUGHTS OF IONESCO: Long-Defunct Detroit-Based Post-Hardcore Icons To Release First New Studio

Long-defunct Detroit-based post-hardcore icons, THOUGHTS OF IONESCO, will release their first new studio recording since 2001 this June via Corpse Flower Records.

Recording their first record when two-thirds of the bandmembers were still in high school and breaking up when most were barely twenty-one-years old, it’s a wonder that the infamous Detroit outfit THOUGHTS OF IONESCO even lasted the few years that they did. Confrontational to audiences, uninterested in record labels, exceedingly dark and heavy, the band played music that was once referred to by Alternative Press magazine as, “the ultimate realization of pain through sound.” Forged in 1996, the hardcore, art-damaged soul of THOUGHTS OF IONESCO materialized around vocalist/guitarist Sean Hoen, bassist Nathan Miller, and drummer Brian Repa; the band also included a sax player by the end of its career. Repa left and returned several times during the band’s existence, and Derek Grant (ex-Suicide Machines, Alkaline Trio) served as his replacement for a stretch from 1997-1998.

Imaad Wasif announces new LP, Dzi, shares first single “Far East”

Ever wary of the evil eye, the title of Imaad Wasif’s Dzi comes from The Tibetan Book of The Dead. Pronounced ‘zee,’ the word translates to “shine, brightness”. Dzi may or may not contain references to love, paranoia and delusion. Characterized by Wasif’s psychonautic sound, it’s a marked departure from the acoustic guitar and folk rock style established by The Voidist and veers more into the uncharted territory of indoproto-dream metal. Wasif, an Indian singer, songwriter and guitarist, known for his simplistic compositions and dark emotional ballads contrasts vulnerability with riffs that strive against the notion that rock n roll has completed its historical trajectory. Dzi is a foray into psychedelic rock, and credited as “the last Western rock album to integrate Indian raga sounds.”

CHAND K NOVA Album “CHANGE”

Chand K Nova is a multi-instrumentalist from London England. His love for guitar driven music from an early age led to him getting his hands on a guitar and he has rarely put it down since. After teaching himself how to play the songs of the bands he admired growing up, he became bored with just playing and had an urge to create, but was unable to find people to make noise with. This drove chand to learn a variety of instruments and every instrument played on his recordings has been performed by himself. He then turned his attention to creating instrumental music as an outlet for his creativity and firmly believes that every song composed has it’s own story.

PALM ANNOUNCES NEW EP

Philadelphia four-piece Palm, by way of New York’s Hudson Valley, have announced their new EP Shadow Expert, their first release with Carpark Records, due out June 16th. With all the success that came with their debut LP Trading Basics (coverage in Pitchfork, Stereogum, Fader. Noisey, Spin, Rolling Stone, among others) Palm continues to play rock music backwards. The new EP bears a certain methodology, though there is a tendency towards impulse which seems almost violently opposed to it. The band deals willfully in contradictions like this. The elements of any given song fit together like slightly melted puzzle pieces, serving up rigidity and looseness in equal measure. Palm songs imply architecture, but their compositional structures are somehow bound by different rules of physics than the ones we know. Get a glimpse of the EP in the first song “Walkie Talkie” up top.

Best Available Technology announces new LP ‘Exposure Therapy’

Before the world of hip hop shrunk down to the size of a few websites, back when local radio stations were the trusted cultivators and keepers of regional sounds, New York City’s musical landscape was defined by two words: boom bap. Impose Premiered Hillary Capps’ Single “Last Call”

“Hillary Capps’ “Last Call” is a hauntingly melodic journey into the mind of a young artist, learning how to establish autonomy in an industry full of influencing voices. Capps’ vocals float above the a well-produced collection of echoing guitar riffs accented by subtle percussion pieces that grow as the track progresses. The sound of Capps’ voice becomes more hollowed and layered, echoing in a minor key.

Though just recently breaking into the pop scene in the last few years, Capps has been performing since her teenage years, first as a jazz vocalist and later moving into rock and alt pop. With a voice so versatile, it’s no wonder that Capps can easily soar through the track with ease.” – IMPOSE
