Out now: stream the new release from Pale Blue
Pale Blue is the new alias for Mike Simonetti, one of NYC’s most infamous underground producers, paired with the vocals of Elizabeth Wight. The duo’s seductive double sided EP Comes Home / Have You Walked Through This Night is remixed by breakthrough Spanish producer Pional on Man Power’s Me Me Me label.
Have You Passed Through is raw and daring, its female vocal reminiscent of innovative early electro, this is a intoxicating late night anthem of leftfield electronica. Its lyrics are taken from the film The Thin Red Line, a movie about mans destruction of nature, his world and himself. Come Home is equally alluring with a dreamier narrative, and Pional’s remix is stripped back and effortless.

We Will All Be Equal Soon, the debut collection from CLOAK, is a 6-song EP wherein the NYC 4-piece employs Shieldsian “glide guitar” techniques and processing, marries that with scorching arpeggios, subaqueous vocals, and brutal drum textures that structurally fluctuate between blunt minimalism and relentless jackhammering.
Lyrically, principal songwriter Sam Tyndall has achieved a sage solemnity that can only be acquired through life experience, squinting at themes less intimately interpersonal and more broadly existential through a lens of fatalism. When something as fanciful as romance does peek through the blinds, its performative nature is placed under scrutiny, examined as a faulty societal construct in a manner that is crisp, yet presented under a veil of opacity.

Coming out of the cold with some fire bars, Montreal’s Wasiu has plans to invade the American rap scene. Methodically rhyming over a wintry array of synthesizers, Wasiu annihilates wack rappers on “Snow Mexican,” his latest single. After teasing us with a pastoral intro, the Tibe and Dear Lola co-produced beat drops to reveal a sinister undertone for the MTLien to reassert his dominance over the harsh weather conditions of his home country: “Frostbite on my ring finger/guess I’m married to the cold.” With a title referencing a fake (yet believable) Donald Trump tweet about Canada, “Snow Mexican” is Wasiu’s first new song since last year’s ode to then-Canadiens defenseman “P.K. Subban.” Premiered by VIBE, “Snow Mexican” is a brilliant opening salvo from Wasiu’s upcoming project, MTLiens 2.
