Samantha Fish Enters iTunes Blues Charts at #1
Whether one leans towards the blues, opts for Americana or ignites some special fervour by playing with a garage band, there’s a common bond that suggests a reverence for the roots. Looking back towards an earlier template — no matter what the genre — proves the point that appreciating what came before can be a stepping stone for what comes next.
Samantha Fish knows that all too well, and it’s been evidenced in the music she’s made her entire career. While she’s well known as a purveyor of blues, having been lauded by such legends as Buddy Guy, the Royal Southern Brotherhood and Luther Dickinson, her real love is simply raw, scrappy rock and roll. “I grew up on it,” she insists. “Working with Luther on my last album further instilled that spirit in me. It made me realize just how much that basic, unfettered sound means to me, and how well it ties into soul music, R&B, country and so many other forms of music that are essential even today.”

Official Statement From Discogs Regarding Fraudulent Most Expensive Record Sold
Discogs had planned to share an incredible story regarding The Most Expensive Record title changing hands at the onset of 2017. The record was broken twice in 2016 by David Bowie’s David Bowie selling for $6,826.00 in March swiftly followed by Prince’s Black Album selling for a whopping $15,000 in April. However, Discogs advanced news to a small number media outlets confirming that a test pressing of Billy Yeager’s 301 Jackson Street had sold for $18,000 that was slated to announce this morning, but as we all know, you cannot dethrone Prince.
At approximately 7pm EDT on Tuesday 22 March, the transaction had been determined to be a breach of Discogs’ Terms Of Service after exhaustive research by Community Engagement Specialist, Aaron Marquez. Founder and CEO, Kevin Lewandowski states, “Discogs’ priority will always be preserving the integrity of our user-built database With hundreds of thousands of contributors, buyers, and sellers, putting their trust in our community, Discogs’ mission will continue to be built on the love of music, not the duplicitous nature of the hustle.” We’ve updated our Most Expensive Records Sold for January 2017 to reflect Röyksopp’s Melody A.M. clocking in at $8,034.81. The rest of the Top 30 Most Expensive Records and Kevin’s entire statement is on the Discogs Blog.

Nettwerk is excited to announce the signing of SYML to its label roster. Translated as “simple” in Welsh, SYML is the creation of Brian Fennell, a Seattle-native and founding member of the indie-rock band Barcelona. With a keen grasp on textural and emotive songwriting, Fennell combines piano, minimalist synth and string-scapes with ethereal vocals to take the listener on a journey through the senses.
The last six months have been busy for Fennell. He saw the release of his debut EP ‘Hurt For Me,’ which features a song with Jenn Champion (formerly of slowcore heroes Carissa’s Wierd), and signed to Nettwerk Records at the end of 2016.
John Davis (The Folk Implosion) Shares New Track
John Davis, previously of The Folk Implosion with Lou Barlow, will release a new LP this summer. Titled El Pulpo, it’s a concept album about corporate corruption in the food industry and related issues like (im)migration, mass incarceration, public health, and the stock market. Davis’s backing band on the album — “The Cicadas” — features a rotating cast of musicians that includes Peter Hughes (The Mountain Goats) on bass, Andrew Levi-Hiller (Yairms/Alhhla) on drums, Wendy Allen (Balustrade Ensemble) on backing vocals, and Jonathan Henderson (Kaira Ba) on stand up bass.
