MARIA USBECK NEW SINGLE
Though the songs were composed electronically, Amparo called for an acoustic treatment, so Usbeck spent a winter in the studio recording the arrangements live with producer Caroline Polachek of Chairlift who has also produced Beyoncé and engineer Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson. Fleshed out in full sonic color on the marimba, xylophone, quena flute, piano, and harp, the album stretched into something hi-fi and expressive, meditative but not meandering.

Philadelphia-based electronic artist Cumquat has released a brand new track in The Bering Strait. Cumquat has teamed up with internationally recognized radio station XPN to unleash the track to the listening audiences.
“[Philly] electronic artist Kevin Sul’s new project Cumquat alternates between atmospheric, melodic synthesizer tapestries and hard-hitting, abrasive electronic grit. His latest, “The Bering Strait,” splits the difference between the delicate “Consciousness is my Trigger” and the skittery “Cucumber” for a cut that’s poppy and pretty but with a fierce rhythm driving it forward.” – John Vettese, XPN

POLLYN RELEASE FEMME FATALE ELECTRO BALLAD “TOO LATE TO CHANGE THE PAST”
“Too Late To Change The Past” is Pollyn’s moving ethereal ballad.
Lead singer Genevieve Artadi explains how she wanted”…the lyrics and melody to be femme fatale-like, but like the guilt and fear of a woman who goes around leaving a trail of hurt behind her. She always plays it cool but is struggling with causing as much trouble as she does.” For Pollyn’s beat maker and producer Adam Jay Weissman, the song is “the Pollyn song we’ve been trying to make since we started recording music.”

HORSE THIEF NEW SINGLE
Two years on from their well-received debut album Fear In Bliss, Horse Thief return with a new single entitled “Drowsy”, released as part of this year’s Record Store Day celebrations. Of the track, which is about addiction, Horse Thief singer and songwriter Cameron Neal had this to say:
“When writing ‘Drowsy’ I tried to tell the other side of the story in regard to addiction. Watching and seeing someone give up and turn away from everything they love. It’s a serious and very real thing everywhere in the world and some people are still afraid to speak on it. Without talking about it, nothing will ever change and no one will ever feel comfortable to admit and ask for help. This song is a song for both sides and can be far more about drugs depending on where you are in your life, a song to give reality to both sides of the story.”

THE SLOVAKS “MEDITATE”
Jeffery Drag Records is going international; They’re stepping across the pond and bringing back a like-minded band with them: The Slovaks.
The Manchester band may have emerged in 2013, but their roots run deep. It all began in 2006, when frontman Adam Saylaby met Luke Barton while at university. They became friends when Saylaby spotted Barton’s Mars Volta shirt. With this, they bonded in the way that most music fans bond: over heavy drinks and heavier records. Soon after, they began living together, juggling day jobs and writing tunes for side bands that were never fully realized. Luke Allen entered the picture in 2008 after he made a cheeky comment to Saylaby in the toilets of some club. Saylaby retorted, and impressed with his comeback, Allen soon joined the gang.

Lars Gotrich of NPR Music said, “Luke Bell has a classic, brassy country voice that conjures images of both dimples and tears in a beer. His songs exist somewhere in the same arena, because just as easy as it to be charmed by Bell’s clever turns of phrase, he’ll hit you upside the head.”
WOODPIGEON PREMIERES VIDEO FOR “WHOLE BODY SHAKES”
“Whole Body Shakes” was filmed in the mountains of Iceland and a warehouse office space in Vancouver. The trio of dancers are co-founders of Vancouver’s Konichiwaack crew, demonstrating the Waacking dance style developed in the 1970s and 1980s on the West Coast, predominantly in California’s gay cultures. The influence of Waacking is one felt in other popular dance forms – most notably Voguing – yet it remains a distinct scene unto itself. Whereas Voguing is largely a battle between opponents, Waacking is all about moving together. The video was directed by Greg Gillespie, and all styling – including Woodpigeon’s Mark Andrew Hamilton – was by the dancers themselves.
