NPR Music Premieres Chris Bathgate’s First Single From New LP

Dizzy Seas is Bathgate’s fourth full-length album; a brilliant collection of recordings that collage together to make a whole, not in a seamless way, but almost like a photo album that has been edited to force you, the listener, to put yourself into the story, to add to that narrative. The music itself is borne of daydreams, and invites you to join in, with the album having left a door unlocked for you to enter by Bathgate’s inimitable skill in, as NPR puts it, “the art of distilling alienation into bruised-sounding beauty.”

‘I believe in progress’. As statements go, it’s a pretty powerful one, and entirely suitable for Public Service Broadcasting, a band who have risen from eccentric, self-releasing, DIY outsiders to major festival mainstays and radio favorites in seemingly no time at all.

Since its initial release last November it has since surpassed some of his most notable records and continues to rise in numbers. Most who are familiar with previous projects would agree that, A.B. and Fresh are an ideal combination, or as the song title suggests have “Perfect Symmetry.” Fresh’ infectious hook and bridge, along with the cohesive blend of A.B.’s background vocals, lay the foundation and enhance the colourful imagery portrayed in the video.

Young Galaxy Return!

On the new single the band says, “We can no longer stand idly by and rely only on the people who shape the world for us culturally and politically. We must stay true to ourselves and feel the courage of our convictions in the face of polarizing political and personal views. But most of all, we must show empathy, compassion and love – even when faced with increasing existential threats, and fear and hostility. This song is a statement of intent, as we enter a new era, to hopefully serve as a reminder to ourselves of what our responsibilities are as artists in this troubled time.”
