WOODES RELEASES ‘THE THAW’ REMIX EP FEAT. LUPA J, DNKR(GER) & SODF

Melbourne artist/producer Woodes recently released her single ‘The Thaw’ to much praise, now enlisting the help of some of the best up and coming local and international talent to remix the acclaimed track. Australian indie producer and triple j unearthed favourite Lupa J bringing her brooding sounds to the track, German sibling production duo DNKR turning ‘The Thaw’ into beautiful chill house while Sydney based house duo SODF taking the track into the clubs with their deep house remix.

‘The Thaw’ has been added to full rotation on triple j and triple j unearthed as well as receiving a mass of online praise from taste makers including Pigeons and Planes, Indie Shuffle, Rolling Stone, Grazia and US actress Emma Roberts – who recently tweeted the track to her 3.8 million followers. The track was profiled heavily across Spotify and included in various Australian and Scandinavian playlists; The Indie Mixtape, New Music Norway, New Music Deutschland and Spotify Finland. ‘The Thaw’ also debuted at #12 on the iTunes Norway Alternative Chart.

BANK OF MELBOURNE ANNOUNCES MELBOURNE MUSIC BANK FINALISTS FOR 2016

Bank of Melbourne today announced the finalists in its 3rd Melbourne Music Bank competition. Now it’s over to you: from today until 9 October, the public is invited to vote for their favourite entry. The four entries with the most overall votes will perform in a finale at the Arts Centre Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on 25 October, where a panel of industry experts will crown the winner.

The 12 finalists from a record 540 submissions showcase talent from all over Victoria in hip hop, alt-country, rap, folk, rock, pop, garage and soul. The finalists are: Sal Wonder from Brunswick, Anna Oliphant Wright from Lake Gardens, Ayyoob Meeragani from Fawkner, B Cardamone from Richmond, Batz from Collingwood, Birdhouse from Caulfield, BLOOM from McCrae, HeavyHeads from Balaclava, James Franklin from Dandenong, Sienna Wild from South Melbourne, Tempus Sun from Moonee Ponds and Zii Music from Fawkner.

Prizes are up for grabs for voters, including double passes to this year’s Beyond the Valley festival and Pandora subscriptions.

“Call On Me” is the first video off E.N Young’s newest album and was shot in New York while on the nationwide Spring Harvest Tour where he played back to back sets opening with his band Imperial Sound and closing out the night with his long time band Tribal Seeds. The video was filmed and directed by Jeff Pliskin of Raised Fist Propaganda and features Imperial Sound Band as well as Ras Fraser Jr.

His great-great-great-great-great-great-great (etc.) grandfather was the 14th century poet John Gower (friend to Chaucer and Richard II) and his great-great-great-great grandfather was George Frederick Root, the most popular songwriter of the Civil War era. Probably more relevant is that his mother is an English professor and his father a classical composer, who gave him a Korg 8-track recorder and his first guitar.

Friends since grade school, Sean Gavigan (vox/guitar) and Zac Ciancaglini (drums) have been playing in bands together for over a decade. Originally from the small farm town of Vineland, NJ, the duo came up in Philadelphia and relocated to New York in 2008 to work in recording studios and start a new band. They played their first show in the summer of 2009 where they met Gabe Wilhelm (vox/bass) – also a Vineland native – who had relocated to do much the same in 2005. Wilhelm (who was previously in Ryan Adams band The Cardinals during the making of Easy Tiger) joined on bass and instantly became a permanent fixture and collaborative songwriter. Collectively combined, they’ve had the pleasure of working in the studio with Blonde Redhead, Real Estate, Willie Nelson, Minnie Driver and Warren Haynes to name a few. Their experience and versatility is apparent on Hover Craft.

ENTRANCE’s “Promises” Brought to Life in Short Film

Still reeling from a summer tour with Beach House and in preparation for the release of his latest EP Promises (Thrill Jockey), ENTRANCE (Guy Blakeslee) has revealed an animated video for the title track. Inspired by Stephen Hawking, both the song and video focus on the Hawking’s time travel theory – the universal experience we have coping with time’s destructive and constructive powers and mythology.

The video was created and directed by Rozalina Burkova, a Bulgarian born London-based illustrator and GIF maker who recently concluded an art residency at the Croatian Island of Obonjan. She is currently preparing a solo exhibition and setting up an illustration collective.

Sinless Share New Single “Cool” Via the Wild Honey Pie

Portland-based guitar-pop group Sinless formed in 2015. Fronted by Pittsburgh native Cor Allen, the group released their debut record Ethereality, a 4 song EP that showcased the young band’s propensity for mining the best of early ’90s 4AD, brit-pop and Madchester sounds.

Where the Ethereality EP was a full band effort, Sinless’s forthcoming EP Melodie is primarily a solo effort by Allen. Recorded entirely in his bedroom, Melodie further explores the rhythmic textures of British alternative music at the dawn of the 1990s.

Although akin to something you might find at a Ringling Brothers show, these are actual attributes to one Brooklyn based emcee known as Siimba Liives Long. The African-American musician born in New York, and raised in a myriad of places from Ethiopia to Washington D.C, has found an ample footing among the tastemaker set due to whirlwind rhymes whose lyrical content is thought-provoking and whimsical. As NPR puts is, Siimba’s flow is “sportive yet serious, playing equal parts esoteric and quizzical.”

Amanda Palmer & Jason Webley release new EP

Amanda Palmer and long-time collaborator Jason Webley (with whom she also co-wrote the conjoined-twin concept album/musical Evelyn Evelyn) have teamed up again, this time to compose five new songs inspired by playwright Michael McQuilken’s upcoming musical, “JIB: or The Child Who Went Forth To Learn What Fear Was”. JIB – which takes its title from the shows protagonist – is an immersive rock musical and live film that follows the trajectory of a female singer-songwriter, and is a true multimedia work that explores the interconnectedness of inspiration and the unseen forces which guide our lives through her rise and fall. The audience is immersed in Jib’s world and quickly become part of the action. Set to premiere in Philadelphia this November, JIB is running a $50k Kickstarter campaign, which closes in nine days and is currently at $34k of a $50k goal.

From Indian Lakes and Triple Crown Records are excited to debut the dark and murderous music video for “The Monster,” from the band’s forthcoming record, Everything Feels Better Now, out October 14th on Triple Crown Records. “The song is a great example of what we worked to accomplish with this new record and our live show,” said drummer Andy Lum. “With Shiver + Shake, our live show was almost identical to the album experience, whereas now we’re adding a ton of energy and expanding the sound of the new songs when we play them on stage.” Adding two new members to the band also increased its overall creative capacity. “We had no limits in the studio and could strive for something new in every song,” Lum adds. “It’s also really rewarding when you make music with people that have different influences and style, you’re always learning.”

Columbus Ohio based singer-songwriter Mary Lynn has released a nostalgic video for her new single “Plans” from her sophomore LP “My Animal” Out 9/23 on Anyway Records. The premiere was hosted by The LP Collective who said the song has “a great beat and a great story.” “Plans” is a trip through time with footage of one of Mary Lynn’s first birthdays interspersed with surreal, psychedelic and at times silly backdrop drops.
