ROB GARZA X NEIGHBOUR

Rob Garza & Neighbour’s “Your Calling” was first inspired by their sunrise sets at Shambhala Music Festival in 2014. Playing one after the other to thousands of inspired music lovers created the beginnings of their bond. The collaboration moved from the stage to studios in San Francisco and Neighbour’s own studio in Vancouver where the creative process flowed naturally. During these studio sessions both Garza and Neighbour learned of one another’s affinity for Stee Downes’ collaboration with Lovebirds on “Want You In My Soul”. His
vocal styling can be heard on “Your Calling” bringing soulful and witty vibes with a classic delivery.

“Morning Chant” features Yacoba Diarra on vocals and the ngoni, the West African lute. Yacoba is a true troubadour, whom Bay Area natives may recognize from their commutes on the BART. “Morning Chant’” is layered with West African tribal grooves destined to punctuate summer sunrise sets this year.

CASSORLA “THE RIGHT WAY”

There’s the guitar player who’s worked with everyone from Slick Rick to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and then there’s the guy recording demos and creating Microsoft Paint videos in the back of the tour bus.

For a long time, Ben Cassorla tried to reconcile those two; wearing one hat on stage and the other while traveling. On his debut EP, Amigos, he decided to put them together and bring the friends from his guitar playing life together with the demo and video-maker.

RICHEY NEW EP ON COMPLEX

Named “the most promising Montreal producer” by Vice Thump, 20-year-old RICHEY was lured to the dance floor at an early age, raised on a diet of deep cuts and dark rhythms. Having made his debut via the mighty John Digweed’s ‘Transitions’ Radio Station at the tender age of fifteen under his former moniker, Richie G, this new alias for one of dance music’s already known names has turned down an exciting path – RICHEY’s matured sound of deep underground grooves are equally capable of satisfying the most opulent dancefloors. Following up his recent Fix That Sound EP on Nicole Moudaber’s MOOD imprint, RICHEY’s latest project, a sophomore EP entitled Call Cali, was self-released today via Complex Magazine.

NEW BAND COIN ON TEEN VOGUE

Not a lot of bands start by sheer fate, but COIN—the four-man group from Nashville—definitely did. After Chase Lawrence and Joe Memmel briefly met at 16 years old after Joe’s then-band’s concert, the two had no idea they would end up sitting right beside each other in a music theory class at Belmont University years later. It took them a few weeks to even realize this wasn’t their first time having a conversation.

NEW EP OUT BY EMPIRE OF GOLD

Independent singer/songwriter Michael Jack Dole, better known as Empire of Gold, or EoG, has released his first debut EP, “Raw;” personal narratives turned balled fused with hard rock anthems. The five track EP, recorded humbly in a studio in the comfort’s of Dole’s own home, delivers the alternative/grunge rock vibe that contemporary big radio rock has seemed to have lost today. According to Dole, “When music is commercialized it looses it’s personality and I want to deliver my music in a personal way whether or not it is mainstream.”

Inspired by his life experiences, Dole’s music is immediately relatable with lyrics that expose raw emotion and provoke thought. “I feel music has derailed off track on why it was ever created and that’s to feel emotion – I want people to listen to my music and be able to feel my experiences.” And feel they do – the five track EP unveils bittersweet stories of personal triumphs as well as tragedies, a grunge rock-laced tale of love and loss.

The release is dedicated to Schon’s best friend and wife, who serves as his true inspiration every day (Both “Lady M” and “Triumph of Love” were written for her, the latter of which he performed at their wedding on December 15, 2013). Schon shares, “This is an evolutionary album for me. I’ve always aspired to be a better player and push musical boundaries. And sure, I’ve sold 80-million records with Journey, and I’m proud of that, but this album is really me — all based on my guitar, which is my ‘voice.’ It’s bold. There’s love, and there’s definitely fire and an element of danger. And the energy level is off the hook.”

YP “GET NOTHING”

The word is in on YP’s latest project, “Untitled”….no skips. Real music. Today, fresh off a premier by Mass Appeal, we get to see one of the tracks come to life in the form of the visual for “Get Nothin’.” YP shared the inspiration behind the song, saying “Get Nothin” is a saying that comes from my grandmother. She used to tell me “You Get Nothin If You Don’t Do Nothin” and it had way more meanings than one. You don’t get rewarded for not doing work. You don’t see certain consequences if you don’t take certain actions. It can be both negative and positive. Thanks to my Granny…..”
