SKOPE NEWS FOR APRIL 3, 2015

NEW ALBUM BY ROSELAND

Including members from Cortez, Kruger, No Sun In San Francisco or Sonograph, the band is gonna release with “Roseland” a delicate sonic flower in a classy package of careful production signed by Raphael Bovey (Kruger) and Magnus Lindberg (Cult Of Luna). Synths, strings, orchestral guitars, breathing drums and a million voices in the land ofroses. Don’t expect it to be all gentle and smooth though, you might be surprised by some weird electronic drones and crushing post-hardcore climaxes. Sadness, despair, hope and joy all next to each other. Life in every breath. Twelve songs about flowers and thorns featuring a dozen of musicians from Switzerland and beyond.

REVENGE OF THE MEKONS: NEW DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE CULT ROCK GROUP

After a successful run at New York’s Film Forum, Joe Angio’s exuberant documentary, REVENGE OF THE MEKONS, will be screening at Indiana University’s Ryder Film Series April 10-13. Showtimes and locations are listed below.

In light of Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act – which allows business owners to discriminate against gay, lesbian, and transgendered people on religious grounds – anyone who posts the anti-discriminatory hashtag #WeAreIndiana along with #MekonsMovie on The Ryder’s Twitter (@RyderFilmSeries) or Facebook page (The Ryder Magazine and Film Series) will gain free entry for the three nights the film is playing.

“Pulling the Indiana University screenings to protest the state’s new discriminatory ‘religious freedom’ law would only prevent like-minded students in one of the state’s liberal bastions from seeing it,” director Joe Angio said. “So instead we are using social media to spread a positive message of support for the LGBT community.”

Along with the place I call home. From Los Angeles CA to Lansing MI. The simplicity of my life right now is beautiful. Wake up, serve, work, create, give & repeat.

ABOVE BELOW WITHIN ALBUM STREAM

Above Below Within is the second full length album by Swedish psychedelic / classic rock quintett Nocturnalia (formely known as Nocturnal). It’s a seven track opus with a more cultivated sound than it’s predecessor but with the same underlying philosophical concept which has always been the foundation of their creative process. The album was recorded and mixed by the bands newly added guitarist Linus Lundgren at studio Ganymeden in Linköping during the summer of 2014. Unlike the last recording they also decided to produce the album by themselves, leaving a more personal mark on the final outcome.

PROMISE LAND “ALRIGHT”

After huge releases on the likes of Spinnin, Doorn, Mixmash and Size, Italian house duo Promise Land are back with ‘Alright’, their debut single for Flamingo records which is scheduled for release on March 23rd.

Opening with intense 4/4 kicks, Promise Land prove their prowess for a powerful build up, coupling thudding percussive polyrhythms with a wide-open, piano-led vocal section. From here, the duo lock their sound together, throwing the track into a tightly wound vortex, painting dizzying synth sounds over hard-hitting drum hits – creating a euphoric juxtaposition from the relief of the track’s previous section.

HIGHLY SUSPECT “LOST”

“Their new track “Lost” mixes the guitar shredding havoc of typical Brooklyn grunge with stead, jabbing bass. It explores the contrasts between virtually total silence and sonic bedlam, breathing in a few resting moments.” – Blackbook Magazine

IKEY “STORY, STORY”

On “Story, Story,” a hypnotic piano sample loop lurks throughout much of the 64 bar onslaught from Ikey, whose vocals are embellished by a variation of effects including a speakerphone filter. The song’s opening bars re-capture those of Ikey’s previous single release, “When We Were Kings,” which Pigeons & Planes said “represents his culture lyrically and sonically.” “I grew up in Nigeria during a time of social and political turmoil,” Ikey explains. “I actually lived in Lagos during the last military regime, and my experiences from that time greatly influence the stories I tell. Nigerian music from artists like Fela Kuti, Oliver de Coque, Osadebe, and music from French World Music group Deep Forest that my dad played during that time inspired me musically.”
