Mapache Release ‘Lonesome LA Cowboy’ – A Surprise EP Out Now

Mapache has released ‘Lonesome LA Cowboy,’ a surprise EP consisting of three charismatic covers. Coming just months after the Southern California-based, twenty-something duo were introduced via their acclaimed self-titled debut album, which showcased the incisive lyrical and melodic craftsmanship of their original work, ‘Lonesome LA Cowboy’ highlights their skills as interpreters, taking songs best known for renditions by The Louvin Brothers, Doc Watson and New Riders of the Purple Sage and making them distinctly their own. The lilting “Katie Dear” spins beauty from tragedy, while the bittersweet “Last Thing On My Mind” bids a fond farewell to a lover. The laid-back title-track, “Lonesome LA Cowboy,” captures the days and nights of a West Coast troubadour.

CHASER TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM “SOUND THE SIRENS”

DYING SCENE RECORDS and EFFERVESCENCE RECORDS have just announced that on July 20th they will be co-releasing “Sound The Sirens”, the 4th full-length album from Southern California skate-punk act Chaser.

Sitting firmly between ’94 NOFX and ’95 No Use For A Name, this is all-that-is-holy by way of all-that-is-Epifat. Double-time drums, anthemic choruses, and big, sunny SoCal whoa-ohs – on “Sound the Sirens” the band doesn’t just have the sound, they’ve got the songs. Through eleven tracks, you’ll see a band at the top of their songwriting game and you can get yourself a taste by streaming the album’s first single, “Bonfire,” on bandcamp.

Kelly Willis: Rolling Stone Country premieres video, New LP “Back Being Blue” out now to raves

Kelly Willis’ new video for the song “Don’t Step Away”is premiering at Rolling Stone Country, who says “Back Being Blue, which opens with the soulful and forlorn title cut, closes with a buoyant dose of irresistible confidence in ‘Don’t Step Away’… a spoonful of delectable icing on an already flavorful cake.”

“Blurs” is a striking new track from Echo Vista

Echo Vista, the duo of Tim von Echo and Leo Vista, churn out vibrant electronic music that touches on dream-pop, house, and psychedelia. New track “Blurs” is a piece of effervescent beauty, featuring glistening strings and orchestral hints throughout that remind fondly – at least aesthetically – of The Flaming Lips’ brightest efforts on Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. Woodwinds and a bass-y reverberation just prior to the two-minute mark makes for pure infectiousness, while the strings and psych-friendly fluttering that follows does well in closing out this bright and airy electronic-pop gem.

Mirah announces sixth solo studio album ‘Understanding’

‘Understanding’, Mirah’s 6th full length solo record, is a conscientious return to her early unconventional recording process — an embrace of spirited imperfection and rawness inclusive of rough first takes, natural room sounds, and a fair amount of broken equipment. Bathed in the sparkles of disco ball light, Mirah recorded demos with vocals, guitar, organ, and percussion in a former army barracks gymnasium at The Headlands Center for the Arts, where she spent four weeks as an artist in residence.

Wave Break Goes To “Plaster City” In Music Video Premiere

Boston-based pop punk band Wave Break see red with the debut of their first music video for their second single “Plaster City,” out TODAY. An anthemic track written by lead vocalist Kelly Barber, the video shows the band in a smoky performance setting, all tinged red, which the band claims sets the tone for their upcoming summer EP, due out this August. Highly reminiscent of Riot!-era Paramore, Wave Break blends early 2000’s pop punk elements with modern alternative cues to take on an energetic persona. Although just their second single , the band has been expanding into new touring markets as of recently, supporting bands such as Oh Weatherly and Centerfolds in the regional area.

Quebec Post-Punk Band Scattered Clouds Premieres “Justice” Video

Scattered Clouds is the sound of post apocalyptic romanticism. The Hull, Québec experimental outfit manages to walk the razor thin line between cacophony and delight underscoring auto-fictional narratives with brooding rhythm, cavernous vocals, and precise noise. Terse retro-synthetic soundscapes call to mind the works of Vangelis or Tangerine Dream, paired with the uneasy ecstasy of Suicide or the tense, thundering underbelly of Liars. The fog and lo-fi static of their sound makes for a mood that is mysterious and entrancing, like neon-lights or driving down an unlit back road at night.
