NEW BOOK BY RECORD COMPANY PROMO MAN DAVE MORRELL

45 RPM (Recollections Per Minute) The Morrell Archives Volume 3, penned by record company promo man Dave Morrell, is out now and available. In the new book, Morrell gives an eyewitness account of the sea change in the musical landscape of the mid-1970’s, as Manhattan tastemakers turned from pop to the raw sounds of punk and new wave, turning out for 4 a.m. shows at CBGB in the Bowery. While Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese explored similar terrain in the fictional HBO series “Vinyl,” their younger selves walk the mean streets of NYC in 45 RPM.

“Awright boys, who’s gonna powder my nose?” Jagger asks upon entering the men’s room of The Other End nightclub. While Morrell’s brother is puking in the sink, the rock god shoves a spoon up Dave’s nose – and then they return to the main room to witness a rare performance by Carly Simon. In another escapade, Morrell is invited to the set of Taxi Driver by actress Billie Perkins and introduced to Scorsese and Robert De Niro while they shoot the landmark film on city streets amid a heat wave.

We try and try to figure it all out, to sort through it all logically, to see the beauty…but at the end of the day there is still a brokenness within us. Our hope is that the music will resonate with the listeners, and that in being honest and open, our story would reach the hearts of everyone who lends an ear to these songs.”
