Q-TIP TO REP HIP HOP AT JFK CENTER
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced today the launch of its inaugural Hip Hop Culture series in the 2016–2017 season. This new programmatic platform recognizes Hip Hop’s contributions to global culture and its role in promoting values such as courage, freedom, justice, and service—principles that are part of the Center’s John F. Kennedy Centennial Celebration. A national and international phenomenon, Hip Hop culture authentically promotes these values through five core elements—deejaying, emceeing, breakdancing, graffiti writing, and knowledge of self—carrying with them the power to build and transform communities through art and action. With this new offering, the Center also aims to increase opportunities for community involvement and participation within its programs.
“We are proud and excited to be incorporating Hip Hop Culture into our artistic and educational programs during the 2016–2017 season,” affirmed Deborah F. Rutter, President of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. “In our role as a national cultural institution, we feel it is vital to recognize all of the performing arts in our programming. The history of Hip Hop and its development as an art form, and the complexity and importance of its impact on the arts landscape driving social and cultural awareness, has inspired us to have a more formal connection with our ongoing programming. By launching this series, we strive to spotlight these powerful traits through each program and to make them part of the Kennedy Center fabric as we look into the future.”

THAT MAN SANTIAGO NEW ALBUM
The Album “Nightlife Fifty-Five” by That Man Santiago was recorded and mixed at Soundscape Studios out here in Chicago. The concept behind the project was to create an honest soundtrack of a person’s thoughts before and after a night out in the city. During the length of the tape I travel between thoughts of “turning up” and not worrying about the consequences, to thinking about the repercussions of my actions. The tape touches upon the idea that we are all filled with contradictions; however those contradictions are what help us learn and grow as people.

CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL TO BE CELEBRATED WITH THE ‘1969 ARCHIVE BOX’
Fantasy Records, an imprint of Concord Bicycle Music, is thrilled to announce the release of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s 1969 Archive Box, available exclusively for Record Store Day on April 16th. Drawing entirely from archival material, this audio-visual time capsule presents the band’s exceptionally prolific year in real time: with interviews, photos and correspondence, band ephemera and, of course, the music they released that year.
The year 1969 brings to mind a wealth of images, emotions and sounds: Apollo 11’s Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, taking mankind’s first steps on the lunar surface; baseball legend Willie Mays hitting his 600th home run; the Woodstock Festival-reinforcing the power of the baby boomer generation; and, of course, the Vietnam war-raging on, endlessly in the background. It was a period of upheaval-of divisiveness and discontent, but it was also a time of hope, unity and progress. For Creedence Clearwater Revival -a young band from Northern California-1969 would prove to be a year of unmatched creative achievement and global success.

KOOL STUFF KATIE NEW SINGLE
Written in Portland and Hood River, OR and recorded with Fisk at Seattle’s Soundhouse Studios and Fisk’s home studio, It’s Fine fits perfectly in the proud canon of Northwest music that shouts down frustration and depression with a 4/4 beat and an overdriven amp. “When people listen to the record, we want them to enjoy themselves” says Oliver. “The songs are written from a place of frustration, but are tailored – both lyrically and melody-wise – to be very accessible. In that regard there is a lot left up to the interpretation of the listener. Essentially, we tried to write a record that everyone could identify with and lose themselves in, and that maybe you’d feel a bit better about everything when it’s through.”

Lead vocalist Eva Holbrook explains their inspiration for the video’s concept: “The first few lines for this song dropped from my lips on a rooftop in Los Angeles. There’s an exciting energy and perspective above the streets of any city. It reminds us that we can follow our dreams up the back stairway, ignoring the ‘Do Not Enter’ sign, and arrive at the place we were told was out of reach.”

“HOME” VIDEO BY THE YOUNG FOLK
The ‘Home’ video is the story of a man in a hospital bed whose heart stops. As we hear the heart monitor flatline, the video begins and the duration of the song is what takes place in his mind during the flatline.
The new ‘Home’ video actors are two renowned Irish actors as well as personal friends, Gus McDonagh and Paul Reid (RTE’s ‘Rebellion’ by Element Pictures / Touchpaper Television). Their comic timing in ‘Home’ is helped by a lifetime of ‘craic’ (good times) together but also the tragedy at the end of the video is amplified for everyone who knows them.
