Detroit rapper Babytron has released his 6th project, fittingly titled 6, via TheHipHopLab / EMPIRE. In celebration of his birthday yesterday, the 6th of June, Babytron shares his most distinguished project yet, one notably void of features creating a true snapshot of Tron’s essence as an artist. This is also the first project that does not feature Babytron as a cartoon on the album cover, instead using a picture of himself as a kid. Accompanying the album is Cole Bennett directed video for album opener “100 Bars”, a track where Tron literally packs 100 bars (and outfits) into one song. The Japanese House Releases “One for sorrow, two for Joni Jones”
Written with MUNA’s Katie Gavin and co-produced by The Japanese House’s Amber Bain with Chloe Kraemer, “One for sorrow, two for Joni Jones” is named after Bain’s dog, who is in turn named after Joni Mitchell. As the final track on the record, the song ends with a gentle flourish of pianos and single drum hit to seamlessly bring listeners back to the start of the record creating an endless loop the way Bain intended.
Ezra Williams’ gorgeously gruesome “Skin”
“I’ve never been somebody’s earth, and you do it different, but she did it first,” is the lyric that we hear once at the beginning of the song, and once at the end as it fades away into silence. The video is as gruesome and cannibalistic as some relationships can feel, leaving you metaphorically bleeding out on the kitchen floor, your emotional energy drained, your heart barely still beating beside you on the cold tile. Ezra’s art speaks volumes through the swelling of background vocals and gentle strumming, and through the sometimes disturbing imagery they use. It stirs up even the most buried emotions and forces you to confront them in a cathartic way – you’re made to feel like you’re in good company; seen.
Folk Singer-Songwriter Dan Pallotta Shares Wistful New Single, “Winnebago Dreams”
Massachusetts-based singer-songwriter, Dan Pallotta, is sharing “Winnebago Dreams,” his first new release since 2022’s American Pictures LP. The fiddle and vocal-harmony laden folk tune paints evocative imagery of the open road and the trips that Pallotta’s family would go on during his childhood.
Sounding liberated and at peace, Pallotta enlisted Soozie Tryrell of E Street Band fame on fiddle, and Tony Garnier, music director for Bob Dylan, to join him on bass to complete the song’s instrumentation.
