Quicksand ‘Distant Populations’ Out Now
Recorded at Studio 4 Recording in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, Distant Populations was produced and engineered by Will Yip (The Menzingers, Code Orange, Defeater), and mixed by Josh Wilbur (Lamb of God, Megadeth, Avenged Sevenfold). The album is the follow-up to the critically lauded 2017 release Interiors. Sonically it has a punchier, more up-tempo sound than its predecessor, with its 11 songs being concise, carved sonic jewels boasting not a single wasted note. Its gripping lyricism and raw power leap out from the very first listening.

“Pretty on the Outside” is a very new sound for me. I’ve always identified as a pop/rock singer songwriter, but this song (and upcoming album) is a lot darker and more real than anything I have ever released. The song is about how we see everything from an outside perspective but we never truly know what someone else is thinking or feeling. “Pretty on the Outside” will set the stage for the album as a whole, which focuses on taking negative situations and looking at them in a brighter light.
Bedroom Pop Artist Aunty Social Will Have You Dancing Alone To “Hide Away”
Daniela, aka Aunty Social, explains, “This song was written during a day, like many, when I refused to engage with the world outside my bedroom. Sometimes showering and feeding myself is enough of an excuse to withdraw and that’s ok. An itching guilt usually follows and if I could describe the feeling it would be like waiting for something to happen but not willing to make it happen myself. Just a lazy, lazy, self-isolady. Nothing in this song was re-tracked, so it’s basically just a professionally mixed and mastered demo. We tried to re-track the vocals, but I wasn’t able to match the relaxed performance. I always get attached to the ease and confidence of demo vocals so I try to keep whatever I can get away with, and this is the first time I kept every single thing.”
