Marco Benevento Surprise Release ‘Levon’s 3/9/19’ Out Today
Marco Benevento and his band—bassist Karina Rykman and drummer Dave ‘DB’ Butler—had their sold out two night run at Levon Helm Studios on March 27-28 postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the spirit of lemons and lemonade, Benevento cracked open the multi-track recordings from last year’s show at Levon’s barn and spent the past several days mixing and mastering the 16-song, 100+ minute set.

The collab-packed track kicks off with R&B singer, Ari Lennox’s, buttery tone on a voice note. When asked about working on the song the Dreamville songstress says she was “Happy [she] got the chance to team up with some of [her] faves.” The smooth, rhythmic track focuses in on the suspicion of being cheated on. Throughout three minutes K Camp and Grammy-nominated crooner, 6LACK are on the defense, denying accusations about infidelity. Both singer/rappers take a stand preaching the value of what they have in their relationships. The song wraps with Chicago rapper, Tink who continues the accusatory conversation of unfaithfulness. Of the track K Camp says “When I made the record the second verse had 6LACK all on it. I reached out to Ari first and when I hit her phone she sent me that voice memo so I used it on some creative shit even tho she never laid a verse. With Tink, the people love when we collab so it was only right I added a verse for her. Made a R&B Classic in my opinion.”

Hamilton says of the song, “‘Ode to Fire” was written during a solo trip I took to Lisbon, Portugal in the spring of last year. I’d burnt myself out and travelled there with the hope of clearing my head and recharging creatively. In the afternoons I explored the city by foot and then spent the evenings working on songs in a tiny apartment. While I was there I lived a pretty monastic existence — especially considering that I knew no one and couldn’t speak the language.
