“Dreams have long been a central theme in the African-American experience. The collective dream of oppressed people.”

Mark Lanegan Shares New Track “Skeleton Key”
When considering any great work of art, be it a painting, a novel, or a piece of music, it’s natural to wonder what might have inspired it: ‘the story behind the song’. Ali Holder Faces ‘Uncomfortable Truths’ Head-On
We each have unique fibers that weave, twist and turn to make up the person we are. Some can be a little ragged, a little worn, a little less than what we expected they’d be — the parts of our brains and bodies that require a little extra care. Singer-songwriter Ali Holder is facing these pieces of her own story head-on throughout Uncomfortable Truths, set for release on April 10. Atwood Magazine premiered the first single, “Bruja,” which utilizes La Loba, a Pueblo myth, to resurrect women who died at the hands of the Mexican cartel. The outlet notes the song is “a dazzling show of force” as “Holder’s impassioned singing speaks for those who lost their lives, who may no longer use their own voices to fight an ongoing, terrible, and largely unseen battle of gender, power, and place in society.”

Following their lauded Critical Failure (2008) and Becoming Wrath (2013) full-lengths, both released via Deep Six Records, DESTROYED IN SECONDS returns with the riotous fruit of Divide And Devour. Centered on pushing back against the growing wave of far-right populism, authoritarianism, the growing police state, and the rise of neo-nazi/alt-right/Proud Boys and the like, Divide And Devour spews forth eleven tracks of punishing, unrelenting d-beat ferocity. Tracked by drummer Sean Vahle at Architeuthis Sound in North Hollywood, and mixed and mastered by John Haddad (Final Conflict, Phobia) at Trench Studios in Corona, the record includes the addition of bassist Kyle Hertz (Temple Of Dagon, State Of Defiance) and lead guitarist Christian La Rocca (Ruin, Gravehill, Cobra Venom) writing a new chapter of rage and fury for the band.

Female Hip-Hop Artist T BARZ Releases New Single, “HEY LOVER”
“HEY LOVER” was written and produced by T Barz, Louis Humphrey and Jasmon Joyner. “I’ve always been a fan of “love rap”, the type that we grew up listening to in the 90’s and early 2000’s,” mentions T Barz. “A huge example and inspiration is LL Cool J. He was always so smooth with it, especially when rapping about love or anything involving women. The first time I heard his “Hey Lover”, it was simple but dope on many levels. He talked about seeing someone who he wanted to get to know better and how it was “just a crush”. I remember that track ’till this day word for word, because that’s one thing we can all relate to…love or crushing on someone at some point in our lives,” she adds. “My song is similar, as the vibe is about hanging out at the club and someone catching my eye.”

HORSENECK: Revolver Streams Fever Dream
Fittingly titled, the eleven-track offering shifts seamlessly from spatial distortion, to specific detail, trying to navigate a nightmare of an existence with the grace of a butcher knife. Fever Dream is driven by the darkness and uncertainty of the world. You can hear it in its melodies, lyrics, and unorthodox use of horns and keys all throbbing under the weight of its own sonic psychosis.

OUT TODAY: Rose Cousins’ new album ~ Bravado
Cousins describes Bravado as a record for those who struggle with loneliness and those wishing they had more time alone—for those who struggle to connect with others, or even to connect with their true selves. “I think about how we’re so disconnected,” says Cousins. “I get sucked into my phone and forget to go for a walk because of this sense of obligation I have that convinces me to get as much work done as possible. We’re missing what’s actually happening. I’ve been thinking about how we must be getting close to a breaking point.”
