Tommy Prine Forges A Path Of His Own With Debut Album This Far South

It took a while for Tommy Prine to share the songs he’d been writing about the triumphs and tragedies of this life, only letting friends in on what he was quietly creating. Kelly and Johnson called Prine and urged him to quit his job, get in the studio, and share his music with the world. Today, Prine released his debut album This Far South to a swath of hard-won fanfare and critical acclaim.

The chaos of the chorus encapsulates that explosive feeling of wanting someone so badly that it almost doesn’t make sense. The anxiety of just the idea of losing someone at the same time you’re falling in love with them is such a bizarre experience.”

Commenting on the new album Maisie explains, “This is my heart and soul, my blood on the page, the collection of stories that I’ve managed to capture in the past year. A true chronicle of my life in recent history, it is my own twisted version of a breakup album and it all draws upon the same couple of months’ worth of experiences and inspirations. It ducks and weaves between the real and surreal, and centers my own universe, of which I am of course the keeper of the keys and the holder of the cards – the good witch, if you will. It goes from light to dark in the flip of a switch and I hope takes you on a journey whereby the end you feel like you’ve gotten lost in someone else’s planet for a bit.”

We had our horn player layer the melody & then we added Rhodes & Wurlitzer through a Leslie cabinet speaker. We ran some vocals through it, trying to capture that Allen Toussaint meets Mac DeMarco vibe. The result is quite astonishing. It was the first song my girlfriend ever said, “That’s a hit.”

Cavey before diving head first into an onslaught of high octane guitar work and rapid drums. The soaring chorus could probably shake a stadium crowd, as Cavey sings “Set ablaze, reanimate / through suffering we will remain.” The monochromatic video for the track finds the metalcore band as dynamic as ever, giving an impassioned and exhilarating performance.
