The Mary Veils are finally the band they were always supposed to be. What began as the solo project of frontman Brian Von Uff is now a fully-fledged, incendiary punk four-piece, with drummer Evan Wall, guitarist Drew Mann and bassist Justin Mansor rounding out the new lineup. Von Uff’s debut EP under the Mary Veils name, 2017’s Slacker Paint (re-released by PNKSLM last year) so enthused Wall as to tempt him back behind the kit after a break from drumming, and caught the attention of Mann and Mansor of fellow Philadelphia noiseniks Hot Lunch, who quickly followed Wall in jumping on board. “And it’s been like Beatlemania ever since,” laughs Mann.

keshi Releases GABRIEL, His Debut Album Via Island Records
While the title GABRIEL isn’t related to anyone in particular, it is a name that keshi personally likes and he believes naming an album is like naming your firstborn child. Coincidentally, it was nine months ago when keshi began splitting his summer between Houston (where he is from) and Los Angeles to create GABRIEL with Baltimore producer and songwriter Elie Rizk, who co-produced the album with keshi. The result is the familiarity —keshi’s pristine falsettos and guitar— taken to new heights. Whether it’s the adrenaline surging single “GET IT” or tracks like “HELL/HEAVEN” and “ANGEL” that’s powered by emotionally forward songwriting, keshi fuses genres with life experiences and his intuition to create an album that’s intentionally designed and built to evoke a certain feeling. “I started thinking about how being an artist is more than being a songwriter, being a singer, and even more than being a producer,” keshi said. “It’s about understanding the ins and outs of a world that you build for someone to listen to and live inside. That was really important for me to understand my musical journey.”

“There was a fire in me while making this record that I hadn’t felt in years,” explains The Wrecks frontman Nick Anderson about their dynamic alt-rock single “I Love This Part.” “I remember the night I wrote the majority of the song and recorded the vocals; I cried, I laughed, I yelled. I let all of my intrusive thoughts in. I let myself be angry, be sad, be spiteful, be free.” Like the earliest Wrecks songs, he says this song means a lot to him because it kept his “head above water and helped [him] cope during a very difficult time. Not only that, but it inspired and set the tone for the rest of the upcoming album.” The video for “I Love This Part” is also out today and it was directed by Dan Henry who directed COIN’s “Chapstick” video.
