Vance Joy says, “I wrote ‘Don’t Fade’ with my friend and frequent songwriting partner Dave Bassett toward the end of 2019. It came as a surprise and felt like a special discovery. I like writing about that feeling of timelessness you get when you’re with someone you love. When we came to produce the song, I had the great fortune to work with Take a Daytrip, Edwin White and David Longstreth (of Dirty Projectors). Writing this song was the starting point for my new album. I knew I was on a path somewhere once this song came along.”

High on Fire’s Matt Pike Releases New Video, “Land”, featuring Mastodon’s Brent Hinds

“”Land” was written after I had just come home from a tour. It’s like an old blues song. I was thinking of it as like a bunch of old dudes in a subway doing a doo-wop thing,” offers Pike. “It has the feel of a two-step like my Mom used to dance to, like Country Western. It’s totally about depression and leading a hard life. Later, I was playing the song for Brent Hinds from Mastodon who had come out to Portland to jam with me and he laid down this smokin’-ass Billy Gibbons kind of solo! I did one solo and then he did his solo and I’m like, “You’re a dick,” (laughs). The bass player from Brent’s other band West End Motel, Steve McPeeks, played some stand-up bass – both plucking and with a bow – and it really brought out this depth to the song. I’ve never written a song like that and recorded it and made it as cool as it is. It’s totally different.”

HELL MILITIA Unleashes New Song,”Genesis Undone”

Tears For Fears Release New Video For “Break The Man”

Today, iconic British duo Tears For Fears have released their new music video for “Break The Man,” the third single off their highly anticipated first studio album in seventeen years, THE TIPPING POINT, arriving February 25th, 2022 via Concord Records. Inspired by the song’s lyrics, the music video encompasses a world that illustrates the constructed reality of the patriarchy – a place of endless hierarchies built on blind devotion to unstable and unsustainable structures. From the inside, the world appears infinite, but from the outside it’s a mere plaything in the hand of Mother Universe.

Juni Ata returns with ‘Someone Else’s Rising Sun’ & announces new EP ‘Some Songs’…

“In five simple songs, dear curious listener, we range from the moment just before birth- where all is warmth and distant, glowing light, to the moments approaching death; from California sun to cold, dreary north Alabama winters and far-flung battlefields in distant lands,” Edwards says about Some Songs. “There is love to be sure, and that love is lost, then rediscovered but changed… then there is hope, and loss, but not so much as before. Can we ever be hurt as much as before? In the end we are glad to remember, we exult in remembering, that we are all of us standing on a tiny rock, floating on and on in the black, frigid, nothingness of outer space. And that time is short, but wondrous beyond compare.”

Pillow Queens Share “Hearts & Minds”

Today, the band are sharing the second single from the new record, a track called “Hearts & Minds” that singer/guitarist Pamela Connolly describes as capturing the reoccurrence of teenage insecurities occasioned by the band’s rise to prominence and the imposter syndrome she experienced as a result.

An orchestral piece of alt-pop, “Hauntology” is the latest proof of the spellbinding power of Auder’s music. Produced by Auder herself along with Jessica Winter, Larry Hibbitt, and Dviance, the track unfolds in a lush arrangement of sonic elements: ethereal textures, emphatic drum rolls, ornate horns, Vai’s wildly frenetic guitar work. But despite its sheer opulence, a certain visceral emotion cuts through each line of “Hauntology,” thanks to the raw and hypnotic passion of Auder’s vocal presence and the poetic wisdom of her lyrics (e.g., “Time is haunted differently/It’s something you let go/No new comes of repeating/The things we almost hold”).

“From the heavenly dancing of Balanchine’s Chaconne to Kylián’s breathtakingly beautiful masterwork of art that is Bella Figura, and finally to the special world premiere of DEVIL’S/eye choreographed to the iconic music of The Rolling Stones, this program is a feast for eyes, ears, and soul. I can’t wait for audiences to experience such divine beauty and dynamic excitement,” said Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen.
