Filmed in black and white to communicate a lack of nuance and expression, it features Lewis in what he calls a “stereotypical masculine cowboy vibes” fit, strutting around town with a suitcase in hand. Girlhood (ffo Fugees, The Avalanches) Share New Single “4AM”

London duo Girlhood are today sharing their resounding new single, “4am”. It arrives as an unreleased cut from last year’s self-titled debut – out via Team Talk Records – which found tips at Stereogum, NPR, BBC Radio 1, 6 Music, The Line of Best Fit, Gigwise, Bandcamp Daily, Clash and more. “4am” once again finds the duo lock into tar-thick grooves and arresting melodies reminiscent of The Avalanches, Primal Scream, Fugees, 90’s neo-soul and 80’s hip-hop.

The lyrics, she explains, weave around thoughts of “Consumerism and greed and how much it affects us. ‘Fake’ is a song about remembering the core of who you are. There is so much constantly being sold to us, so much that is trying to tell us who to be, whether it’s an advert or person on the street. How would we be if we ignored it all? When writing this song I was trying to drown out all the noise, it’s about remembering that everything other than what you personally believe isn’t the truth and to listen to your instinct about what’s fake. I hope whoever hears this relates and feels a sense of empowerment towards anything or anyone that has made them feel inadequate in their life.”
