Following her acclaimed release “Antidote” ft. Adekunle Gold and her 2020 hit “Woman” ft. Lianne La Havas, the songstress graces us with this new single in her signature ethereal style, musing about the complexities of love. Describing on the track a relationship that’s on the rocks, and a love that is destructive Nao sings: “said I won’t break, said I won’t change my ways not even this time”.

“Solar Power” debuted to fan and critical acclaim, with Billboard stating, “Solar Power” is a fresh chapter in a riveting book, and Lorde fans should be thrilled to meet this new author.” The Guardian called the song, “… a distinct reinvention, one that gleefully puts a gap between Lorde and everyone else in terms of her creativity” while noting, “Lorde’s comeback single is a lesson in letting pop stars take their time.” Since its debut last week, the song has garnered stellar reviews from places like NME and Pitchfork, has trended #1 worldwide across social media, raked in over 30 million streams in it’s first five days, and was #1 on Spotify’s Global and US Song Debut. The song is the first single from Lorde’s forthcoming third studio album which will be released via Universal Music New Zealand on August 20th. The album includes 12 tracks and is produced by Jack Antonoff who she collaborated with on her chart-topping last album, Melodrama.

Following up on their first single ‘The Punishment’, Aarhus-based quintet MALRUN now present ‘King of Madness’. Evan Wright (ffo Angel Olsen, Cory Hanson) | Shares new single / Album out August 25

This body of work comes entirely mixed, produced and recorded by Evan, partially in his NY apartment before he had to decamp to his parents’ place in NJ due to Covid (which is where he ultimately completed it). It’s a lovely fusion of country-folk-tinged psychedelia, it definitely holds some comparison with the likes of Andy Shauf and Angel Olsen, but also with the slightly more psych-indie shades of Kurt Vile, Jacco Gardner and Cory Hanson. It’s a pretty, introspective sound that finds Evan making some teary rearview mirror observations, this new one comes inspired by the detachment from everyday frustrations. It’s a wonderfully textured track with fizzing stutters of guitar and gloopy synth sounds, something indebted to his experimentation with manipulating sounds using cassettes and tape.

Praises (ffo Zola Jesus, Chelsea Wolfe, Portishead) | Shares new single / EP – August 5

Crowe previously found success at Cvlt Nation, Xtra Magazine and Exclaim but this new EP – out August 5 – really levels up on some of their eerie, electronic goth tones which to me, draw on the likes of Nick Cave, Annie Lennox’s avant-gardism, Rachel Goswell’s shoegaze and Patti Smith’s poetic delivery.
